Highlights, Curls, and Length Check

Well, here is my very own thread. I got highlights at an Aveda Salon on Thursday. GREAT experience. If anyone is from the DC area, go see Lisa at the Georgetown Aveda. She is natural and is a colorist expert. The whole process took like an hour and 15 minutes. My hair was little dry after, but I hopped in the shower, cowashed and did my thing, and I was A-OK.

I just took these pics now, after going out and napping in this ridiculous weather, but my hair still looks pretty good. I rocked a wash 'n go today with my new beloved products (I'll add at the end). So...here are a multitude of pics!
***oh and happiness, my wash 'n go brushes my shoulders now! GROWTH***

***Some are without flash so you could see the color in different kinds of lighting. I tried to get as many angles as possible lol.***

Products and Reggie for wash 'n go:

- EVOO for quick oil treatment
- Tresemme Naturals Moisture Conditioner for cowash
- wrap hair in turbie twist and get dressed
- apply Giovanni Direct Leave-In
- apply Carol's Daughter Hair Milk (I may phase this out)
- apply aloe vera gel
- seal whole head with EVOO

***all done in 4-6 sections.***

Sorry this was so long, lol

Love it! I've been hemming and hawing over getting highlights for some time. Your hair looks great!

$120 (with student discount). $150 straight up. a bit pricey but the service is worth it based on what I researched on Aveda. and my hair is not dry AT ALL

your color and hair look great. i think i went to her too. but my experience was not so positive. not sure i'll ever get color again. :-(

it looked great until a few days later. apparently she left the color too long. i asked for highlights but it looked like i'd dyed my whole head. all of my hair started breaking off soon after. i was very discouraged b/c i ended up having to cut alot of my hair off(went from apl to sl) which i wasn't too upset about b/c as you can see in my ticker i'm transitioning, so i saw it as a mini chop. but it since you're fully natural, so you may not have that problem. i didnt think i'd have this problem since i was a year post relaxer, didnt use heat except maybe twice a month at the most, and i made sure my hair was healthy before the color.

also b/c she left the color on too long part of my hair in the back are literally blond. i have the same texture hair as op, and my hair is very fine, so i think that also had something to do with it. i asked for the color you have, but ended up with blond streaks in the back, and red in the front. i was upset b/c i specifically went there and paid for someone who was supposidly an expert in color for african american women. she knew i was transitioning and said she knew how to handle it. i felt like i could've just gone to my old stylist for cheaper and better results. sorry for the vent. but that was just my experience. everyone i've read about had positive results.

wow...i am so sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I know I waited till I was 100% natural because I was terrified of getting breakage with a relaxer. And as a precaution, I waited till I got to a length I was comfortable with so that IF my hair breaks (which as of now I am confident it will not), I won't mind losing a few inches if need be. I would'nt tell you to go back to someone you had a bad experience with, but you could reconsider the highlights when you are all natural. There is another Aveda salon on U St. called Salon Revive. Its run by Ethiopians and I heard they are real good too.
