and what is the ph? Do you use a moisturizer that contains protein or does that even make a difference for your hair? There are a lot of moisturizer threads, some I've tried , but it would be nice to compile a list that has worked for those of us with this specific issue.
I'm currently using KCKT and Darcy's Lemongrass but don't feel they are moisturizing well, plus the ph of KCKT is 7 so maybe it's too alkaline, don't know the ph of Darcy's.

I haven't the slightest idea the pH of my moisturizers for my high porosity hair. I've been narrowing down staples and favorites using the first few ingredients listed.

My staples are:
Oyin Hair Dew
PBN MMM

Other likes have been:
APB Ayurvedic and Broccoli Hair Cream
Kandy Kurl Shea Souffle

I might start looking into the pH of my products. I see it mentioned here all the time but never put forth the effort to find it out.

I use an acidic moisturizer to keep the cuticles flat. You can try the kimmaytube leave in recipe. 1 oz kckt, 2 tbs aloe vera juice, 2 tsp castor oil, 2 tsp jojoba oil. Have you tried this recipe before? Did it work? If it didn't you may have to also seal with a butter. Also you can make any leave-in conditioner acidic by adding aloe vera juice. But you will need pH strips to test out your products.

I used PBN some years ago and I liked it but I'm such a bandwagon hopper never did order it at again. Haven't heard of kandy kurl. What ingredients

I couldn't get kimmaytube leave in to work for me either. I'm natural so you may have to find a product geared toward your relax hair. I like the Camille Rose moisture milk but I have to mix it with aloe juice to lower the pH. I have fine strands and low density, but I use only a very little amount of butter on my hair. The aloe I use is Lily of the Desert whole leaf aloe juice.

I use what you're using now: Darcy's Lemongrass Transitioning Creme. But, for me, normalizing my porosity occurs during the DC stage and when I apply my leave-in conditioner (after shampooing).

Also using those staples (DC & leave-in) consistently is important, as I've found that constant product experimentation either stunts retention or causes setbacks.

Incorporating regular (medium - heavy) protein treatments is a must for my high porosity hair too. Moisture can't cling to the strands without it

I spray my hair w/ Natty Naturals ACV Mist and then I follow up using Farasue's Garden Ends Butter or any type of butter really.

I'm not sure if this is helping me w/ my porosity. But I will experiment w/ different combos.

Idk if butters are penetrating my hair. My hair does feel moisturized but idk if it's a temporary fix/coating or my hair is absorbing the butter.

The ACV spray definitely helps w/ my porosity, I'm just not sure if oil based moisturizers is what's best for HP hair or go for water based kinds

Dont know the pH but Ive been using As I Am detangler, leave in, moisture milk and double butter cream. Out of everything Ive tried I love this line. My hair really responds well.

I LOVE this HHJ!!

nymane what is ur deep condish/ leave in routine ,( products etc) that allow u to normalize ur porosity?

protein is my best friend.

i dont have any currently and havent in a while, but i love pure hydrolyzed keratin...i add a little to a spray bottle and dilute it with water and spray it on my hair before moisturizing. i really should get some more. not only does it help to fill in the holes in my hair so that moisture stays in it longer, it also helps me prevent a whole lot of breakage.

i have used aphogee keratin & green tea spray and it does the job, but i prefer the pure keratin best. i dont love the way the aphogee makes my hair feel...it's not horrible, but it's not the best.

for now, i'm using conditioners that contain protein - hair chemist macadamia oil deep repair masque has become my favorite deep condtioner. does a great job of replenishing moisture and also contains a few types of protein. (it does contain cones).

as far as moisture goes, my hair really enjoys as i am doublebutter cream and shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie. i use the LOC method. as far as my sealer goes, right now i have a crazy mix of spectrum brand vegetable shortening, castor oil, coconut oil and olive oil.

cocoagirl I use Silicon Mix (the original) as my moisture DC & Lacio Lacio as my moisture leave-in conditioner. For protein, I use Aphogee 2-step (heavy) & Nexxus Emergencee in between as my medium treatment.

In my experience it takes time to normalize high porosity hair, so as long as you're using the right products, for your hair (consistently), you should see gradual results week by week and dramatic results over several months.

But yeah, Silicon Mix and Lacio lacio definitely changed my hair life.

I was able to try to water-based moisturizers this week.

Mild Moisture: Carols Daughter Marguerite Hairdress (thick cream)

Extreme Moisture: Ultra Black Hair Creme Hair Lotion (creamy)

These two products moisturized my hair as well as my new growth. I'm not a big fan of cones but I assume because of improved regimen that my hair may be able to handle cones w/ excessive buildup.

These 2 thumps up for both.

So last week and today I washed my hair and after I rinsed the conditioner out, I made a mixture of KCKT/Redken extreme protein/Olive Oil/Aloe Vera for my leave in, followed by Annabelle's Ayurvedic Hair Cream, then sprayed with a mixture of ACV/Aloe Vera- and my hair was still dry to the touch within 15 minutes, well the areas that were not next to the areas that were being sprayed by water. So I guess I have a long way to go to get my hair to be of normal porosity or I have to look for other normalizing products to use.

My theory about highly porous hair may be very upsetting to some. I can only discuss my own hair. And what I found out was that my highly porous hair that I have experienced was always due to me. In my latest hair journey, I am natural for one year and one month but shaved my hair last May and am eight months in that journey. When I colored my hair in October my hair became very highly porous and it took me three months to literally get my porosity back to a medium porosity. You have to be aware of things like products that may work against your sebum and porosity, the current state of your hair, styling techniques, there are even some oils that may even not agree with your porosity at all either.

I agree. I'm at the end of a long transition now, but when I was relaxed, I kept small bottles of SAA, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, and Hydrolyzed Keratin in rotation. When I couldn't get my hands on them, I used Neutral Protein Filler (available at Sally's). All I did was add some to my dc.

I found that, as long as I was using drugstore/ salon brands, it made more sense for me to focus on products for color-treated hair because they're formulated to manage the opening and closing of cuticles (because there are, in fact, some times when you actually want your cuticles open). To that end, one of my faves was Zoto's Porosity- something, a very watery spray that I used as the 'L' in my wash day reggie.

Now that I'm almost natural, I'm following a MHM-inspired :look: regimen, but very, very loosely. Like, very. :look:  I'm also about to get another bottle of my beloved SAA's.
