Hi Ladies I am new

I have been lurking on the board and a few others for a while and I have finally gotten up the nerve to post. I decided to join you ladies because even though I don't have long hair, just from lurking around this board I have gotten some very good information. I have looked at a lot of you ladies pictures here both relaxed and natural and you ladies have beautiful hair. My hair is relaxed at moment and I recently made the decision to go natural. My last relaxer was on May 11, 2004. When I relaxed my hair the last time I burned my scalp so bad that I had to go to the doctor and the doctor had to give me an antibiotic to fight infection. I was so embarrassed that I did not even want any one to find out about it. I also have a huge place in the back of my head where my hair has broken off to about an inch. Actually I have been fighting with this week spot for a while. I also have made the decision to go natural because my 13 year old daughter said she does not want me to relax her hair any more eventhough she is not having any breakage. she said she likes her hair nappy. My first empression was " what" and she said yes no more perms for me mommie and she is 6 weeks post relaxer and still transitioning. We have decided to go on this hair journey together. I will try to post some pictures soon.

Oh that is so sweet that you and your daughter are going to discover your natural hair together! I love it! Good luck on your journey...

Wow, I'm so sorry about your scalp getting burned.

I've heard too many stories about chemicals burning women's scalps. Fortunately, you still have hair on your head so that's something to be thankful about. I really hope your scalp heals.

It's wonderful that you found this site because just like you said there are many women here with a wealth of information who will be glad to help you when you're ready. Do you know what your hair type is? I look forward to seeing your pics soon

Welcome to the board!
Most of us, I daresay, didn't have long hair when we joined. And some of us have suffered setbacks (like me) just when we were making major progress. But LHCF is the place to be if you want long hair!
Welcome!

I am not what my hair type is yet I believe I probably am in the 4 category. I a have to wait until I get more new grow to actually be able to tell.

Welcome to the board!!! I would suggest reading many of the past threads for even more helpful tips. The ladies are really great here.

I just wanted to say that I think it's beautiful that your daughter doesn't want a perm. At that age it was so hard for me to wear my hair natural, because of the ridicule I got for it. You two can inspire and support each other.

You'll get alot of information here. The transitioners board at www.nappturality.com is also a good place, where many women discuss their daughters and the transition process.

Welcome to the board!!! I hope you and your daughter take the time to look at some of the hair albums so you can see how versital natural hair is.

How long to you both plan on transitioning?

I found it kind of hard to believe st first that she did not want any more relaxers because of the whole peer pressure thing. All of her friends like their hair bone straight but I have always tried to stress to her that its okay to be a little different.

I would like to grow a little and trim a little. I have been natural before. I wore my hair in a twa a while ago and I loved it. The reason why I started to relax again was because I moved from a big city to a small town where I could not find anyone to cut my hair in a femine fashion. The male barbers seem to cut my hair to masculine or either they just did not cut it right because they were not use to cutting females so I chose to relax again. Also at that time I didnt really know what else to do with it besides wearing it short but now after reading different posts and viewing different natural pictures, I feel I can do it again.

You certain can do it Laroots. Good luck and enjoy your healthy hair journey.

I never truly understood the whole peer pressure phenomena, it never affected my decisions in my youth. I applaud your daughter.

You must be doing something right to instill in her a willingness and boldness to buck the system (i.e. what's considered acceptable in her social circle) at only 13!
