Hi! I\'m the new girl!

Hello everyone, I am new here and I can't wait to get started on the road to healthy hair. I know there are a lot of smart women on this board who are willing to help me. I have been observing for a while now. I know who you are!

I have determined that my hair is 4a. However, it is also pretty thin. Other than that, it is in pretty good condition. It is color treated with highlights but I haven't noticed any extra breakage due to that. About two months ago, for some strange reason, I decided to have a sewn in weave put in my hair. I thought, this will give my hair a break from heat styling and other damage. I seemed to have forgotten that my hair was thin and couldn't really stand the tension of not only braids but the extra weight of the weave.

My snapped to my senses two weeks into having it in and in a panic, took it out myself.

Yeah, I know. Anyway, I didn't lose hair taking it out. I had already lost hair by leaving it in. I lost a good amount to my already thin hair and was left with a pretty uneven coif. Which brings me here. Whew! I recently started to take a daily multivitamin and purchased Wild Growth Oil on a whim. The smell is a bit strong to say the least but it is a very good moisturizer on my hair. I am open to any help and suggestions. I will take suggestions on multivitamins, products, haircare, you name it. I'm desperate. Please, someone help me! Oh, I forgot to mention that currently my hair is shorter in the sides but the back reaches to the middle of my neck. It is very thin however. I am not opposed to growing out my relaxer but I am concerned with breakage and controlling the tight curls that I tend to have. I thank you in advance for all your help. I'm counting on you guys!

Welcome GSU_Girl!

As far as thickening your hair is concerned, Vitamin B5 taken internally is great for that. There are also hair products that have B5 in them that are supposed to thicken your strands, like Nexxus Diametress Shampoo or Nexxus Headress Volumizing Leave-In. From what I gather, your hair isn't breaking, which means, as far as deep conditioning both for moisture and strength is concerned, you seem to have that down pat.

I can't think of anything else, but perhaps if you shared what your regimen is, someone might see what I might be missing. But from what you wrote, sounds to me like you are already treating your hair like you ought.

Re: Hi! I\'m the new girl!

Hi, thank you all for welcoming me! Sorry I've been absent for so long but I have had some trouble accessing this site for some reason. Thanks for the tips too. I can't say that I have a set in stone regimen like some of the smart ladies on here do but this is basically my "routine". I oil my scalp every other night or so with Wild Growth Oil and a couple of times a week with Tea Tree Oil. I wrap it every night with a satin scarf. I wash it once a week with either a Motions Shampoo and condition with Motions Conditioner or either Creme of Nature Shampoo and no conditioner. I have also had good results with the Infusium 23 line. I do take a daily multivitamin and drink eight glasses or more of water daily. I exercise for at least an hour 4-5 days a week. And if this has any relevance, I try to stay away from too much red meat and don't eat more than four slices of bread a week.

Re: Hi! I\'m the new girl!

Also forgot to mention one of the Golden Rules I have learned while observing the site: I try to keep heat down to a minimum. I flat iron and blow dry only when I wash my hair which is once a week. Maybe I can stop all together.

Welcome to our site. You will find tons of useful information here and will be inspired by all of the healthy, lenghy hair gurus here. This is probably one of the best hair sites that you will find for minority women.
