Hello Everbody, First let me introduce myself. My name is Karima and I am 16 years old. I have 4 a/b texured hair that is shoulder length in the back and shorter in the front. My hair goal is first of all to even up my hair, and second of all to grow it mid- back. My first question is: Has anyone on this board used African Pride No lye relaxer? My older cousin that does my hair says its a good relaxer, but I wanted to hear about it from someone who has used it for a while.

Thanks for reading ladies,
Karima /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Welcome Kamilla16,
I can't answer about the African Pride relaxer, but I wanted to tell you that in order for you to even your hair up you will eventually have to cut it because most people's hair doesn't grow evenly all the way around. For the majority of people the front and sides will be shorter, this isn't a bad thing, but if you want a blunt bob you'll have to cut it and maintain that cut because eventually the back will just outgrow the fronts and sides again. "The hairs on an adult scalp do not grow in unison, as they do in an unborn baby. " -an on-line reference by Dr. John Gray, provided by the P&G Hair Care Research Center.

I hope this helps!/images/graemlins/weird.gif

Hi Kamilla16,

Welcome to the board! /images/graemlins/smile.gif Are you using a relaxer now? If you want to relax your hair, I would definately recommend a lye relaxer instead. If you read through some of the threads on the forum, you'll read a lot of information on lye and no-lye relaxers. Read up on the different relaxers first. Whatever you choose to do, good luck! /images/graemlins/wave.gif

Hi Kamilla,

I have never used African Pride No lye relaxer, but just wanted to wish you a welcome anyway! /images/graemlins/grin.gif Also, many women on this forum have switched to a Lye relaxer because it is less drying on your hair, which in turn doesn't break as much. You can also do a search on this forum to get more information about the Lye versus No Lye...it has been discussed a lot. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

welcome kamilla,

yes you found the right person /images/graemlins/grin.gif, i have been using african pride for a long time now. although for my last touch up motions in mild was applied, i didn't like it that much though. i always relaxed my hair at home with african pride and i always had good results. i have 3b hair though. i can only speak for myself i guess, but i think it's a good relaxer and leaves your hair soft and shiny. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Welcome to the board! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have never used that relaxer, but I wanted to say there is a lot of very good info on this board---take advantage of it. I for one wish I had board like this when I was 16.

Again welcome

Hi Kamilla,
I used to use African Pride Perms. I will definitely not be using this perm again. IT is no-lye and i used to get them done at home. It was good at first but after a while it left calcium deposits on my hair. I have 4a/b hair so this was just my experience with it. Hope that Helps. welcome again. /images/graemlins/wave.gif

Hey everyone that suggested a lye relaxer I might make that switch... I too think that lye relaxers do dry out my hair!

I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks Karima /images/graemlins/drunk.gif

Welcome. I am not currently relaxing, but I know that most ladies who do feel that lye is much better for your hair than no-lye. So if I ever relax again, that's what I plan on doing because I feel one of the problems I had was with the no-lye drying my hair out.
