Hi all! I'm introducing myself, and I also need some advice :)

 I'm a long time lurker, finally deciding to come out of the shadows.

I didn't want to start posting without saying hi, and I didn't want to say hi without posting some pics. So, even though I hate trying trying to take pictures of my hair (because I suck at it) I tried anyway.
I don't know if you can quote attachments, but if you can, please don't :)

The first pic is me early last year when I was relaxed, almost APL, which is why I'm kicking myself for the next pic...

End of summer, I decided to get a bob - it framed my face really well, but I wish I would have made my mind up to transition before that.

During transition - sew-in.

The last two are from today - my standard style, just leave-in conditioner and a little pompadour. I just big chopped in February - I don't remember the exact day, but it was somewhere around the 14th. So, I've been completely natural for 3 months and I transitioned for about 6. I love my natural hair, but I do miss having some length.

I also need some advice: My birthday is tomorrow and I'm trying to decide if I should get my hair straightened and maybe trimmed if needed. I want to see how long my hair has gotten and I just feel like having my hair blow in the wind lol, but I don't want a set back this early in my journey.

My hairdresser is good at straightening, I'm just want to make sure I get the least amount of damage possible. Also, I don't use silicones in my hair, and I feel weird taking all my products with me: I don't think she'll mind, she works at Fantastic Sam's, but she comes to my house sometimes too and often uses my products. The thing is I'd have to go into the salon to get it done tomorrow since I have something planned for my b-day and can't wait for her to come over, I don't want her getting an attitude about me being picky especially if I need a trim. I also don't know if I should let her do a blowout first, I think that may be too much damage. She can do a roller set, but she might try to convince me to let her do the blowout to save time in the salon. I don't know, what do you guys think? Should I insist on a roller-set first? What's the least damaging way to straighten natural hair? I know deep condition, heat protector...any thing else? I think my hair is already on protein overload so I'd just wait and do a PT after.

You and your hair are so cute!!! Happy birthday.

Idk what you should do for your birthday style -- what do YOU want to do? It sounds like you're worried that your stylist will try to talk you out of doing what you want if you don't decide on a blowout. Can you figure out a way to politely insist on what you want? Maybe take a friend or family member with you? She shouldn't get an attitude about using your products -- that's less product that she has to buy! Even though it doesn't feel like it sometimes, YOU are the customer and she is the one providing a service, and you are entitled to what you want.

Anyway, I know I didn't answer your question! I will leave it to you to decide how you want your hair styled. Just wanted to say that you have the right to ask for what you want -- it's YOUR hair and YOU are paying. End of discussion. :)

Well, if your hair is going to be flatironed, I'd ask for a rollerset to minimize the direct heat used. That's what I'd tell the hairdresser. I wouldn't argue with her about it either.

Regarding using your own products, call ahead and. Let her know so there's no drama when you get there.

Will your hair stay straight without silicone? I'm not CG, at all, but I don't use silicone when my hair's curly. When I straighten though, there's silicone in the shampoo, conditioner, leave-in, everything. Takes too long to straighten to risk reversion. Just something to consider. If your hair does well without silicone, then make sure there's nothing in the products.

Have fun, and happy birthday early!

Thanks everyone :)

I'm not gonna get it straightened today after all - I don't feel like it, plus it's gonna be in the 80's today, and I don't want to be worried about my hair sweating out lol

i looooooove your curly hair pics

i'd never straighten:lachen::lachen:http://youtu.be/S-q-iWly_1U

Whoa, I'm definitely going to try that, thanks for the link! If I can get nice results like that I might never flat iron either

Welcome!!! You and your hair are pretty!! I would definitely ask for a roller set to avoid damage, and you should call ahead of time to see if its ok if you bring your own products, and just tell her the situation. She can't really be mad, because she's still getting paid.
