I'm a long time lurker, finally deciding to come out of the shadows.
I didn't want to start posting without saying hi, and I didn't want to say hi without posting some pics. So, even though I hate trying trying to take pictures of my hair (because I suck at it) I tried anyway.
I don't know if you can quote attachments, but if you can, please don't
The first pic is me early last year when I was relaxed, almost APL, which is why I'm kicking myself for the next pic...
End of summer, I decided to get a bob - it framed my face really well, but I wish I would have made my mind up to transition before that.
During transition - sew-in.
The last two are from today - my standard style, just leave-in conditioner and a little pompadour. I just big chopped in February - I don't remember the exact day, but it was somewhere around the 14th. So, I've been completely natural for 3 months and I transitioned for about 6. I love my natural hair, but I do miss having some length.
I also need some advice: My birthday is tomorrow and I'm trying to decide if I should get my hair straightened and maybe trimmed if needed. I want to see how long my hair has gotten and I just feel like having my hair blow in the wind lol, but I don't want a set back this early in my journey.
My hairdresser is good at straightening, I'm just want to make sure I get the least amount of damage possible. Also, I don't use silicones in my hair, and I feel weird taking all my products with me: I don't think she'll mind, she works at Fantastic Sam's, but she comes to my house sometimes too and often uses my products. The thing is I'd have to go into the salon to get it done tomorrow since I have something planned for my b-day and can't wait for her to come over, I don't want her getting an attitude about me being picky especially if I need a trim. I also don't know if I should let her do a blowout first, I think that may be too much damage. She can do a roller set, but she might try to convince me to let her do the blowout to save time in the salon. I don't know, what do you guys think? Should I insist on a roller-set first? What's the least damaging way to straighten natural hair? I know deep condition, heat protector...any thing else? I think my hair is already on protein overload so I'd just wait and do a PT after.
