Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to show some progress pics on the thickening up of my ends. This is my goal before achieving longer hair. I was very shocked when I looked in the mirror today! I had to look twice!!...lol

The before picture (I'm wearing Green) was taken around Febuary, and the after picture (I'm wearing purple) was taken after I pressed my hair today. My mom did the trim.

Enjoy!

Great progress. Your ends do really look healthy. I have converted to a mainly ayurvedic hair care regimen so hopefully I will reap the same benefits as you. I believe in thickness before length as well.

Grow on girl.

I've been using Henna on my hair for at least 4-5 months, as long as I DC really well afterwards, hair dryness isn't a problem for me. You might want to give it a try:grin:.

I am loving it! I bought everything to switch to a ayurvedic regimen, but I've been so worried. This has convinced me to start it. Lovely hair!

I think that henna may have a different result on relaxed or natural hair.

I remember henna'ing my hair years ago when I was relaxed, well it was a dry disaster.

Now that I've been natural for almost 5 years, I had to find something so that I can stop using chemical dye in my hair which severely dried out my hair to the point where I was thinking of cutting off my APL natural hair and starting over. Thankfully, I ran into the henna threads here and I decided to try that.

My hair is not dry at all and it's very flexible, strong, moisturized and I love it. I also find that I can easily detangle my hair just using the Goody therapy & shine brush.

I washed the henna out with a Suave conditioner (of course, along with the running water of the shower ) but other than that I haven't even DC yet. I'm going to make henna a regular part of my routine now. Hoping that it will help me to retain my length and stop the breakage I was having.

Great look girl! One of my goals is to thicken my ends as well...

Can you give us a quick overview of how you use the Shikakai Oil? Do you mix it in your Henna treatments? What do you put in your Henna? I've Henna'd twice and it was too drying... I'm willing to try it again in a few months because it does make my hair feel stronger. I just have to leave out the Lemon Juice.

Thanks!

Congrats on your success OP! Henna's fine for most relaxed heads (of course nothing works well for everyone) if you lay off acids/terps in your mix and try some MOISTURIZING conditioner in addition to your water and henna. It makes rinse out a breeze, cuts down on messiness.

Thank you girls so much!

dcprdiva - Yes, leave out the lemon juice! The first time I tried henna, my hair came out very dry because I added lemon juice to the mix. Now all I do is mix about 50g jamila henna, a couple squirts of honey, CON conditioner, shikakai powder, and warm water. I let it sit overnight and I use the next day. After I started to do this kind of mix, washing out the henna is a breeze. Without the lemon juice, I still get color. If I want a little bit more color, I add cranberry or grape juice to the mix. To answer your Shikakai Oil question....I use Cocasta Shikakai oil from hairveda.net. I oil my hair once a week with it, and put a little bit on the ends of my hair before wrapping at night. It is truly the best oil I have ever used! Before this oil, I used Castor Oil grease.....grease was the only thing that worked for my hair because all of the oils that I tried just sat on top of it. Well, my hair just drinks up Shikakai Oil!

THANK YOU LADIES!!! I'm glad I can share my progress with all of you.

Taz007 - I usually henna every two weeks....most people henna about once a month because they are afraid of two much protein....I balance mine with a good moisturizing conditioner.
