I've been reading so many threads and cannot fully understand what Henna is. Is it a hair color rinse or a conditioner? When is it applyed? Is it good for your hair? What kind of results do you get from it? Who should use henna, those with weak hair or when it is strong? :look:

Its a powder that comes from a plant that is used to dye (I guess kinda like semi-permanent color) the hair and skin. it has conditioning and strengthening properties which gives it added benefits. I know there are a few henna guru's on this board so hopefully they can chime in with their expertise. I am new to the henna thing but I like it. It definately makes my hair stronger.

JLove gave you a really great link but just to answer your immediate questions:

Henna is a conditioner. When allowed to color release, it dyes the hair.

Henna (pure) can be applied at any time.

Henna is a superior conditioner for coating the strands and fortifying them.

Henna strengthens the hair. If allowed to color release, depending on the color of your hair, it will either be red or have reddish overtones.

Anyone can use henna. It will strengthen weak hair and further fortify strong hair. As it can be drying, be sure to follow up with a moisturizing conditioner.

By the way, henna is permanent. It binds to the keratin in hair.
