At what point during the process of washing your hair do u use henna? I just bought some yesterday and I want to use it today but I don't know if I am supposed to shampoo first or do it on dry hair?

I hear most ladies talk about using a conditioner after so does that mean u shampoo first? TIA:)

I was my hair after I've rinsed the henna out. You can use it on dry hair. I rinse, rinse, rinse and rinse some more if needed, shampoo once with a Aveda DR and then I DC.

Hi,

When I henna "for real", I shampoo then blowdry (brushing with a paddle brush so I can comb through it to part it). Then I slather the henna on my roots first, then the length. I sit under the heat cap for about 1 1/2.

When I henna gloss (50% henna and 50% deep cond) I shampoo (or clarify shampoo) then wrap a towel around my head to soak up most of the water. Then I slather the henna/cond mix. I sit under the heat cap for about 2 hours.

Good luck & HHG!

What differences do you see when you henna gloss versus henna "for real"? Do both seem to add the thickness?

Ok thanks. I am going to do a regular henna treatment later. I think I will just sit with it in my hair for 2 hours and then rinse it out, this should give me a good treatment right?

With this henna gloss, can I apply it and then sit under the dryer for like 15-20 mins or do I need to sit under longer?

The henne treatment seems to add more thickness, but it doesn't leave my hair as moist as the henna gloss (although that leave my hair feeling thicker, too).
For both, though, I use Suave Coconut conditioner to "shampoo" the henna out. I rinse as much out with water, then I add LOTS of conditioner to help the henna glide out (it's a bit gritty). I do this 2-3 times with the henna gloss, and 5-6 times with the regular henna.

It sounds like a lot of effort, but it is SO worth it. I'm never, ever going to use chemical hair color ever again!

I henna on dry, unwashed hair. I've done this 8 times and still get great color deposit. I use Suave Ocean Breeze con to help remove the henna, and then 1 wash with CON or Motions Lavish Con Poo.

Please be sure you are committed to having some red highlights. I fall a little more in love every week:)

Wow thanks for the heads up, I saw on the box it said something about leave in for a deeper tint but I was like  I thought neutral henna was colorless, does it still leave a tint? I am not really sure if mine is neutral though but I will look out for those red highlights.

so u dont use a regular shampoo? I have the vatika conditioning shampoo and was going to apply that after removing the henna and then condition as usual. Does that sound ok?

So are you using real henna or cassia (which is called neutral henna)?
It makes a difference, depending on what you want it to do for your hair.

ETA:
I henna my hair dry, then shampoo afterwards to get any gritty stuff out.

I'm using regular henna I believe. I got them confused, sorry. I was going to get neutral henna but the store was super expensive so I went to the indian market and bought regular boxed henna. After I use these two boxes I will get the neutral henna cuz I dont want one with color. Its too late now tho cuz I already have it in my hair.

I apply my henna to dry unwashed hair, co-wash like a mad woman with Suave Milk & Honey, then poo w/CON green and then follow up with a moisturizing deep conditioner.

I don't shampoo after I henna, because I don't want it to wash the henna out. So far, it hasn't been a bad thing. Besides, through instructions in hennaforhair.com and no one mentioned shampooing after the fact, only that you use it on dry clean hair.

Let us know how it turns out! The effects are cumulative, so the more you henna, the more it is conditioned and shiney!

I will, I just washed it out and I'm getting the feeling I'm probably going to do henna once more and then give it up. I see no difference as of yet. I have conditioner in my hair so I'll post pics when I'm done.
