Hey I'm on my healthy long hair journey and I am moving along quite nicely. I would like to add henna/indigo into my routine, but I don't know enough about it. Tell me your story, post your links and point me towards your Fotkis!! I think I'm ready for the challenge! Does it dye your hair? What are the benefits? Any downside to it?

Thanks!

July 19th applied Henna/Indigo, color oxidized more after a few days...i likey likey

July 30th...self-relaxed w/ Silk Elements

Aug 07 08, hair appears thicker and darker

Aug 28 08...where did my Indigo go??

ETA: Re-colored 08/31/08...my black is back

Another update: I have been using the tea rinses with Ayurvedic powders. To date I am really happy w/ my results. I think the overall health of my hair is what I am most excited about. Thought I would share w/ my LHCF family. Below is my results from 8/31/08 thru 9/15/08

Thanks for this!! So - I am presuming that you use Henna and Indigo together?????????? or do you do two separate processes? I want to keep my Black hair - so I would like to know.

Thanks!

I first apply the Henna, leave for hours or overnight, rinse, and apply the Indigo for about an hour or two. I haven't did it again since August, I am 'bout due for another treatment, just for the strengthening it gives my hair. As for the color it is still 'true' black...which I love.

I mix Henna and indigo to color my hair dark red. I don't think I'll ever go back to my natural color (ash blonde).

OMG "myangeleyez" I love your colour. Its so gorgeous. Wow it really gave a deep red color. Although I love my black, I must admit it may be a day I do the RED. Good Job

I use 2/3 henna with 1/3 indigo for a warm black. My hair looks like a rich black. Henna dying is actually a process of permanently staining. Over time your hair will stain darker and darker. Doing indigo by itself will give you a darker color quicker. I don't look good with jet black hair. It makes me look like I've seen a ghost! LOL! Check out my fotki, I took pics of me doing henna a couple of times. I do it about every 2-3 months just to keep a healthy blackness to my hair and to keep the grays away!

Thanks Sis!!

Thanks guys...My hair color is a light brownish color and I don't want it to get too dark/black, but I also don't want red hair either...any suggestions? What type of henna/indigo do you use? Any pics or posts to links? Thanks!

Ok I was afraid of having red or a reddish tint to my hair. Do you guys use the Cassia too? Is that just for the bling? When do you use it? Can you mix the two?
