Hello,
I am not sure if I am 4a type hair or not. my hair is really soft and with a perm, it gets straight when I wet it and it is extremely fragile. the unpermed part curls up in noticable curls and when you pull them, they fall back to my head. I am trying to get my hair to grow to the length of alicia keys hair, past my shoulder but I want it to be really natural and healthy. The women in my family are known for their long hair, as a matter of fact my hair used to be down my back about 12-16 inches and as I got older and got a perm and stressed my hair thinned out and fell out. I keep it in braids now and I am gonna take these braids out in one week. What do you recommend that I do to get my hair to grow to at least 1inch a month or to have around 8 inches of healthy hair by October. Also my hair and the natural curls in it stand up sometimes in separate strands and it makes my hair look frizzy but when you brush it or let the hot wind or cold wind hit it, it dries right out and that is when it becomes fragile, you can pull a stand staight from my scalp without effort. hwell:

It sounds like your hair is dry. The only thing that seems to be making my hair thrive is the constant moisture. Water followed by a creamy leave in and sealed in with an oil or pomade. I have to get moisture in my hair(for me it's rinsing or shampooing) at least 3 times a week or my hair feels dry and I start to lose length because my ends become fragile and break off. Keeping your ends moisturized will help in a big way when it comes to accumulating noticable growth. My hair also sheds less.
