MY HAIR IS BREAKING REALLY BADLY!!
I dunno why either...i hardly wear it down..i keep it in a bun, it is knotty b/ci sweat in my head when i work out but i dont comb it when its knotty mostly slick it in the bun..i wash it 1-2x a week..hot oil, deep cond. and i moisturise...why is this happining?
i think i may have to do a major cut..it will set me back quite a bit if i do....it snaps when i do comb it out...i must have splits right?
what do u guys think?

Do you conditioner wash or at least rinse the sweat out of your hair after your workout? Dried sweat can "eat" your hair.

Does your hair stretch and then snap during your comb out? If so you may need a protein treatment (Keraphix, Penetrait, DRC 28...). If it feels stiff and dry and snaps during your comb out you may need to experiment with different moisturizing deep conditioners.

r u putting too much product in your hair?
do u have hard water?
do u comb your hair roughly?

if u said yes to any of those questions, then that causes breakage. just from my experiences with the bun challenge, my hair would break a lot when i let my hair dry with a lotta product on it and when i excessively combed my hair. i also think I have hard water, so i've cut down on the amount of times i washed my hair to every two weeks. once i find a shower filter, i'm going to invest in getting one.

Hope that helps! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

You said you "slick" it in a bun? Are you using gels? That could be the cause...I have also read some of the ladies say that even loose buns cause them breakage.

I workout daily and if I don't rinse my hair afterward with some conditioner, I am in big trouble. You may want to do a protien treatment and deep condition and then be sure to get that sweat out after working out. Even one day of left in sweat makes my hair brittle. Just do your rinse in the evening and let your hair airdry overnight then bun it up the next day.

when was ur last relaxer? and did u use a protein treatment AFTER getting the highlights (ie. 1 wk later and 3 wks after that)?

I agree with the other ladies about working out and sweating. That salt can really dry out your hair. I always do a conditoner wash after my workouts. This limits your style options if you don't want to use heat but if you're putting your hair in a bun anyway, it shouldn't matter.

I just want to add to what the others have said.
I find that I cannot wear my hair up in a bun or ponytails. My hair, although abundant, is very fine and the handling tends to stress it out. I do better with my hair down and free. Over the summer, I was primarily doing wash-n-wear ponytails and notices thinning around the hairline. Mind you, I was ultra gentle, so I cannot even say it was harsh treatment.

Some people have hair that is just best when not handled often. IMO

ok, i dont rinse after work outs..mostly just my regular rutiene of washing 1-2x weekly..when i slick my hair up i use jamm..rememebr that..Lets Jam, that kinda stiff gel silicone kinda stuff..well that may be the culprit for the breaking in the front..but i was combing thru my hair and i found a broken patch....i dunno what the heck is goin on here..maybe i put my buns in too tight..but i try to be concious of that..i cant wear my hair down too often because, it breaks at the ends and gets dry and brittle..l guess i will try to do cond. washes after working out...seems my hair sheds after i air dry alot..does not dry strait no matter what i do..
so i will try some protien cond. treatments..
and cond. washes after work outs and see how it works..
seems to be ok today i washed it last nite and cut off 1 inch..seems a bit better..i put olive oil in it...
i plan on doing some heavy duty hair TLC...im breaking out all the amo!!!
