You guys are such experts and I've only been trying to really take care of my hair since June and I have an emrgency (or at least I think I do). I'm trying to grow my hair out and I had decided after my last do it yourself relaxer in April that I was going to grow my relaxer out and go natural. The only reason I thought to do this was b/c a couple of my friends who hair has grown really long said they did it by growing their relaxers out. My hair is thin by the way. Well to not to make a novel out of this, I had been wearing my hair in a little bun most of the summer until recently I noticed I needed a trim badly and my edges were thinning. I decided that I can't take car of my hair myself so I vowed to go to an egyptian hair salon and have them do it every two weeks. THe only problem with this is that my hair just puffs back up after about two days and I can't workout or else it really is unmanageable. Well there is a lady at work who hair is about shoulder length and always looks healthy and she sometimes wears rollersets and sometimes wraps. I talk to her and told her about my hair goals and she recommended her hairdresser. She calls her for me and we talked and she said she can put a relaxer in my hair and take care of it as it should be taken care of and she would help me reach my hair goals. I made an appt for next Thurs but I'm scared. Can thin hair gro to great lengths with a relaxer? Should I do it or should I call and cancel. My hair has gron a little this summer but I know I need some serious help. I just can't do it by myself. Please Advise:)

Maybe you can at least go to her for a consultation and hear what she has to say before getting a relaxer touch-up. Maybe you can talk with her about growing out your relaxer and going natural.

Give visit, listen and talk. Tell her exactly what you expect so that there isn't a confusion or misunderstanding. Also make it a condition that she show you how to manage your hair when you can not fit in an appointment. I hate when stylists make you look nice but won' t or don't tell you how to reproduce the look. They think that they are ensuring that we will be back but they are only making themselves look bad because your hair is a representation of their skills as a hairdresser. Let me stop ranting.

Thanks Karezone and Allandra,

I will definately talk to her first and set expectations. Since the appt is not until next Thurs. I thought maybe I should go visit her b4 since she has never seen my hair. Can anybody explain to me what a texturizer is? The only reason I want to do the relaxer thing is so I can do things like roller set and straw sets styles that don't require me putting any heat on my hair or having me tugging and pull until me edges break. Can I achieve this with a texturizer and if I do decided to get the relaxer or texturizer what do you all suggest as far as brand. B/c I will bring my own products if I need to. That's why I wanted to see her b4 hand to see what products do they use.
