Hi ladies,

I need some help with self-trimming. I have never trimmed my own hair before and I want to just take off 1/4-1/2" to guard against splitting. I have very light highlights on the ends of my hair and they are giving me a workout trying to keep my hair moisturized and free from breakage. It's working out pretty well, but I also have layers and want to gradually even out. Any hints on how to go about trimming hair that is about an inch below shoulder length and layered? Thanks!

Check out the trimming section of http://journals.fotki.com/dontspeakdefeat/newcomer/. I haven't trimmed my own hair yet, but I've decided to start trimming my own hair this year. My last trim was 2 weeks ago, and as usual my hairdresser took off more than was necessary. My next trim will be done by me.

The link with the trimming instructions no longer works.:( Any suggestions for trimming shorter hair that can't be pulled over the shoulder from the back, as was suggested in the newcomer thread?

twist your hair insections and trim the end that stick out and are damaged, split. find a friend you trust.
