Help with my hair type (pics) and Regimen Suggestions

Hi All, I'm a newbie. I took a few pics of my hair in its current state. I'm trying to develop a regimen for my hair type. Please help with
1) Hair Type
2) Regimen Suggestions for my hair type
3) Suggestions for constant shedding

Additional Info:

I have about 1-2 inches of new growth in the back and about 1 inch or so in the front. My hair is about shoulder length in the back. It has a ton of layers in it so its not that length all over.

I am strongly considering transitioning to natural. Heat and relaxers just don't work for my hair. I have major problems with shedding and breakage.

I thought my hair type might be a 2c but it is not silky lot the pics I've seen its more coarse.

Here is a link to my fotki.

Welcome to the boards! First of all, your hair looks very pretty ,shiny and healthy to me.

As for your hair type, it is hard to tell. Like I was told when I first joined, you won't truly know until you lose the relaxed ends.

As for regimen, I think if you stick around here, you will definitely find what works for you. Some ladies like cowashing a LOT (like me); others maybe once or twice a wk or not at all. The best advice I could give is don't hop on every band wagon and spend/waste too much $$$$ in the process.

Good luck!

Depending on how much relaxed hair you have, it will have a tendency to stretch out your natural curl pattern.

After you bc you'll get another "idea" of what your curl pattern is.

Then, after your bc grows out, it could very possible look different, again:

Natural hair can do some awesomely strange things as it grows so don't be discouraged or surprised sis.

Regimens will vary depending on the stages your hair is in at any one time. Good poo (or no poo), good deep conditioner and possibly a good leave-in.

Protein conditioner you may need for your relaxed hair and the line of demarcation. A moisturizing conditioner will be a must for your natural hair.

Oils, butters will depend on what your hair likes.

Cones/No cones - also depends on how your hair reacts. I use cone products but I poo my hair every 7-10 days so I know there's no build-up.

HTH - it's what got me through transitioning and even now-a-days.

^^^^ Thank you Lynnie, that's just how our hair is :yep:
It changes...from day to day, from relaxed-transitioning-all natural, from short to long, with or without products etc etc.
Your hair is just beautiful! :)

You made a very simple "outline" to go by...thanks...sometimes I wonder-what's next and I get lost all over again so you really help put it in perspective.

Thank You!!! This is super helpful. Your hair sounds a lot like mine. BTW -your hair is beautiful. What are cones?

"cones" are products with some kind of chemical like dimethicone, cyclomethicone etc., They give hair shine and slip(detangle) but some people find it builds up on the hair strand over time and causes dull dry feeling hair. If you use product with cones you should clarify every so often.
