HELP! What product do you guys prefer when roller setting?

I am new to roller setting, but I just cannot continue blowdrying my hair. I am normally in a sew-in weave, but the technique I used this time leave much (most) of my hair exposed. I am terrified at the thought of it being out like this, so I will do a rollerset and sit under my dryer.

In my product collection, I already have bottle of Motions Wrap Mousse, Keracare setting lotion and Elasta QP Design Foam. I am also armed with about 3 dozen magnetic rollers and clips.

What do you guys use. Are any of these good? I really don't want to buy something new.

HELP!!!

The Keracare setting lotion is a good product, I always dilute that when I use it though. I do not like Motions of Elasta QP foams. I did not like the way these products made my hair feel, kinda stiff. You should try the Keracare Foam Wrap Lotion, Nairobi Foam Wrap Lotion or Elucence Volumizing foam. All these work great for rollersets, producing soft shiny bouncy hair!!! Do you have a good hooded dryer, that is key also.

I am not sure about the dryer. I bought it a few years ago. Conair I think. I have only used it about a half dozen times. I need to blow the dust off of it.

I started to grab some of that Keracare foam today because it looks kinda creamy. Do you prefer keracare's foam or setting lotion?

I prefer the Keracare foam, it leaves my hair softer. I just used it this weekend :D

I love lacio lacio... it moisturizers, and leaves hair vibrant, shiny, and bouncy... or salerm21, both mixed with a lil Kuzrevitalizing wax

Keracare Foam has always done well by me!!! I have both the Elasta QP and Elucence as well and the Keracare tops them both! HTH

Giovanni Direct Leave-In is my favorite by far, but I've gotten good results rollersetting with Rusk too.

I don't have any experience with the products you mentioned. One time I tried ApHOGEE Mousse for Relaxed Hair and it left much to be desired so I said then that I would stop using styling products and stick to things that promote the health of my hair while simulatneously enhancing the style.

HTH

Thanks so much guys! I really appreciate this.

I am going to break down and stop at the BSS on my way home from work.

I think I do prefer something foamy or creamy to help with application.

I am just crossing my fingers that I won’t look a hot mess at work tomorrow and this weekend)

Rollersetting my hair and the extensions together will be interesting but I see it being done at the salon all the time.

Now, does anyone rollerset w/o these items? What about just super wet hair and something like Mango Butter or another cream?

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE (u get the point) Nairobi Foam Wrap setting stuff....It's one of those professional products so you ain't gonna find it in a BSS or walgreens...maybe u can order it off of sheldeez.com or if u know a salon that sells it u can get it from there.

Runner up is Proclaim (sold only in Sally's) foam wrap stuff....it's great.

I love keracare foam stuff but I used it for so long I got sick of it but it was good.

I do NOT like elasta QP or Motions foam wrap...

since i'm transitioning, i'm trying to stop being a PJ (product junkie) and use up some of my products and I ran out of foam setting lotion so i just used my infusium 23 leave in as a setting lotion and nothing else...it wasn't THAT bad, but my hair was kind of hard just using the infusium 23 alone.

good luck!

My stylist used the Nairobi foam on hair when I had a rollerset with my last touch-up. I liked the foam so much I ordered it the following week. I tried it myself and I really like it. Does the Proclaim foam leave you hair soft or a little stiff? I may get that to use as a back-up, I know it would be less expensive than the Nairobi too. It seems for me at least that only the Salon/Professional foams give me really good results with my sets.

On a dry rollerset I like: Elucence MB Conditioner or QP Elasta Recovery focused on the last 2" of hair.

On a wet rollerset I love Keracare Foam Wrap Set Lotion

I agree, the foam is incredible on my hair, even when I blow dry and use the curling iron. THe results are always stunning and last a FULL WEEK. This stuff is worth the $14.99 IMO.

Yea i would definitely used the Proclaim as a backup...thats what I do...sometimes when i dont have $11 to buy it i'll just go to sallys and buy some proclaim for like $3.

I love Lottabody setting lotion. It' s concentrated, so you have to dilute it with water. Sometimes I mix it with KeraCare setting lotion (which for me isn't concentrated enuf on its own to hold a set). It gives me really great sets that last for a few days. HTH. :)

I love Jane Carter solutions wrap and roll. Keracare is great too. I always wet hair down with infusium 23 first. Then wrap and roll.

Distilled Water and L'oreal Smooth Intense Serum ... if you want light bouncy curls.

Ok, this did not go very well. :(

I am going to keep trying.

I ended up washing out the Keracare Foam ( $17) with a mix of CON and Kenra Reconstructor and using Keracare Silken Seal to blowdry and press.

I think the extensions are getting in my way. I could not seem to get it even or make the rollers stay tight. It was horrible. :ohwell:

I just got this weavein on Sunday, but in 6-8 weeks, I am throwing in the weave-it-up towel and going spend some time getting used to caring for my own hair.

Maybe the rollerset will be easier to practice.

Thanks for all of your help ladies.

(P.S. SILKEN SEAL is the best. It cut down on drying time, makes my hair shiny and straight and I don't have to do a hard press. It makes heat styling much safer - worth the investment)

I am sorry your set did not turn out well. I think the weave is definitely the problem. Once you take the weave out, practice on your own hair. It may take a few tries to get the set to come out right, but I am sure it will be much easier for you.

What up Honey Dew!!! Sorry about your rollerset not turning out good. Remember practice makes perfect. I can't do a rolllerset to save my life so i mostly blow out my hair every week. Well thanks for the tip on the silken seal, I am going to buy some this weekend. U ain't steered me wrong yet cause the Kenra Moisture products are the bomb!!! :)

Yes, every time I try something new after a wash (i.e. 7 day relaxer, Loreal Hot straight) my hair is not as soft and silky. Silken Seal does it every time. but I don't like the liquid one - it does not smell too good at all!
