I've been lurking here for a little while. I've read most of the topics here. My hair is natural now. I stopped perming in late september and i now as of today have 4.5 inches of new natural hair. I am currently wearing individual braids with the ends left loose. I have a few questions.

Is it really possible for your hair to grow more than half of inch a month? after all the messaging, my growth rate is still the same. (1/2 inch a month)

I just started taking PP Biotin last tuesday by no itchies or noticeable changes. What am I doing incorrectly?

Does anyone here use pure jojoba oil? I recently bought a small bottle of (pure jojoba) and I love it. Its light, has no smell and great on my natural hair. does using that alone help with keeping hair moist.

How long should you keep individual braids in. my hair dresser said that i can keep these in for about 2 1/2 months. Is this safe?? I do not want my hair to dred.

At 4.5 inches as of July 1, Is it feasable to say that I can get to at least 7 inches by new years?? (in 6 months??)

One more question Viviscal, does that really work? anoybe here use it?? I hear that it is expensive.

I need your expert advice.

I use pure jojoba oil, it is a great moisturizer, but I use it mainly in a mix of my own recipe hair butter. Sometimes I use it solo on my ends.

DO NOT keep your braids in for 2 & 1/2 mths. most braiders say that you can do this, but your hair will grow out and the constant twisting of your hair will cause it to dread or tangle and getting your braids out will be murder. I've never left braids in for longer than 1 mth.

I think that it is very feasible that with healthy hair practices you can get to 7 inches by New Years, you'll only need 2.5 inches.

Those were the only subjects I could help on! I hope you enjoy all the info. you gain here!

I just wanted to say welcome.I don't know alot about braids. I do use the jojoba...both in a bottle mixed with distilled water for misting, alone and in a shea/butter recipe I make.

Welcome to the board!

Jojoba oil is good for moisture I use it mixed with water also. Please do not keep your braids in that long you will just end up losing alot of hair. The longest I keep braids or extensions in is 6 weeks. Happy growing

It may be too early to notice any changes with the biotin if you just started last week. I know that everyone has their own experience that is different from others, but I didn't really start to see an effect from my vitamin regimen until a month or two later. Especially since you are natural, you may not see length for a while, because it shrinks back up.

I only kept my braids in for a month, and my hair didn't lock. I think a month is good for me, because by then i really want to give myself a good shampoo. Hope this helps.

Hi Lakettab, you shouldn't keep your braids in for longer than 2 months. I think that doing that will start to cause extra dryness. Take then down and give yourself some moisture treatments before reapplying braids.

I use joboba oil and it is wonderful because it is so light. Perfect for when you need that little extra something.

You only have 2.5 inches to go so you should be able to get that much growth with your eyes closed. And you want it by January, that is not too much to ask.

I know that a lot of the ladies here achieve faster hair growth with different vitamin regemins that include biotin.
I also take biotin, 5 mgs a day and I noticed within two week a change in my growth rate.

I have taken viviscal in the past and hair formula 37. They work great. They were just a little too expensive for my budget.

I wish you well and again Welcome!

I wear braids a lot, and I've grown out my natural hair with them before. I would say that 2 months is the longest you should wear your braids. By week 5 and 6, you should start being really careful not to pull or let your braids twist. I wear braids for 5-6 weeks at a time.
There's a lot of good information on how to take care of your hair while in braids on www.growafrohairlong.com under the Braids Regimen.
Adding a good braid spray might be helpful to keep your hair moisturized in addition to the jojoba oil.
I can't help you with the growth rate. I'm happy my hair grows 1/2 inch per month

Thanks. I have more questions. I have been surfing the net and I came across tow other products. One is hair rogaine and another is formula 37. Has anyone tried them??????

I took the hf37 for about 2 months. The results were amazing. My hair growth doubled. My stylist was like "wow! are you taking hair vitamins?" The only drawback is the pills are very large and you have to take 2 of the step one and 6 of the step 2. I found them hard to swallow because they have no coating on them whatsoever. Some people crush them although. I think that they were a little over 1/2 inch long and about as wide as a pencil. I am getting ready to try them again for this summer. I think I will crush them and eat with applesauce. I think that is the only way I can manage them for a long period of time. The pills also give you amazing fast growing and strong nails. That is a great benefit! I did not have any side affects while I was taking them. They do make you new growth stronger. Your hair won't fall out if you stop taking them either!

Thanks Luna.

OMG I almost forgot to ask this. why does some parts of my hair grow faster than others? The top half of my head grows much quicker than the bottom. Is it my sleeping pattern that does this. For years the left side of my head always had shorter length. I sleep on my side at night. I am have the same issues but now its the back.
