Help... She wants a perm and has not washed her hair in a year

What makes me mad/sad is that I was given that same advise...dirty hair grows...and not to relax unless the hair is dirty. I only washed my hair once every 2 to three months back then. When I was still relaxed, I didn't really understood why my hair only would seem to grow when I had standing biweekly appointments with my hair dresser, lol. Now I know its probably because she was washing and deep conditioning my hair every other week.

I have a neighbor who did not wash her hair for a year. She has dread locs and her hair has grown from shoulder length to mid back. I can't smell her hair but when I asked her if it stinks, she said yes.

When some people don't want to take advice, it's just best to leave them alone. It looks as though your sister may have to learn the hard way about hair care.

Actually my cousin hasnt washed her hair in almost a year..We did not know until she told us.
Her braids have been up in a bun the entire time too. We tell her she probably has cockroaches in her hair:lol:

I honestly thought this was a thread about her:grin: We offer her bottles of shampoo & conditioner, tell her to just go to the dollar store & get some cheap V05, We tell her to get in the shower and wash it, We even asked does she have anyone that can wash it for her..but still :nono:

Lol sounds jus like my sister lol.. some people are jus naturally lazy when it comes to washing hair lol..

Applecidder, how are you gonna put your sisters business out there like that? I think he's joking. Apple, please tell us you're joking :). If you're not joking, relaxing the leave out is not that big of a deal. There are women who only relax their front edges just for that purpose. The bigger issue is that she doesn't wash her hair. Address that first.

Edited to add (eta): Oooh, I have a good one, you should surprise her w/a hair washing while she sleeps one day. Just pull up w/a big basin or bowl full of hot water and the shampoo and get to work!

She hasn't washed her hair in a year?

But seriously, this is what you need to do. Take the weave out, and WASH THAT ****. Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200. Wait a couple of days and do the relaxer.

If she just has to have a relaxer that day, relax it through the dirt. Disgusting, I know. But that's about all you can do. Either that or wash it, and do a mild relaxer (or a Just for me kit) and pray that the Lord Jesus will protect her hair and scalp and not let her stuff get burnt up or fall out.

@ the two bolded quotes above: UH-UH!!!!!!! If you haven't washed your hair in a year, I am not touching it with a ten-foot pole.

Wow....the things some people will do for long hair.:nono:

Last time I was down in the Islands, I met rastas who never washed their hair for years...and their hair was well past down their back:lachen:you ladies are doing it all wrong..

:lachen::lachen::lachen:

Damn, that's slack. Op, your sister must have a teflon scalp! I couldn't do it.

Now I guess I'll sit back and wait for the 'would you NOT wash your hair for a year for 50 catrillion dollars' spin-off thread...because I know it's coming.

Around here, there's a spinoff for almost every thread and a spinoff for every spinoff.

There are a few things I need to know......
-How old is your sister?
-Does she have friends, is she in a relationship? If so, how do they react to this?
-Is this non-washing thing done out of laziness or does she have a reason for this?

Sorry if I am being nosey but I just cannot imagine my friends or SO not saying something to me about not washing my hair for a year. That is mind blowing to me.

Yeah but she will have to wait longer than a couple of days, she needs to wait at least a week, in her case 2-3 weeks. Also kids relaxers are just the same as regular relaxers.

I can't believe she does this though, doesn't it itch? I couldn't imagine not washing my hair for a month never mind a year!!!

Shes 29 she can wash her hair herself, she is just being lazy and nasty (sorry to say OP) there must be more going on with her, on one hand she is taking no pride in her apperance but then she wants a weave which suggest she does care about her appearance??!

i feel dirty just responding in this thread---

once a yr--i mean...once a yr..nah buddy---
after awhile...wouldnt buildup and odor appear to be a problem

honestly i woud BC and start from fresh grown hair..iunno

The first and last time I have EVER heard the term "dirty hair grows faster or more" is right here on LHCF. I have never heard this ever in real life. Hmmm, maybe that is why I wash my hair daily? LOL!

If her hair care is slipping so badly, I wonder what other personnal hygiene issues are slipping..........

That's not right, or fair.:nono:

Most people that don't know healthy haircare still knows how to take care of their bodies. Y'all remember, that is his sister, and he's new here. :yep:
