help, nothing will straighten my hair

I own a chi and a maxiglide. Within the last two weeks I purchased a fhi platform and returned for a sedu. My hair is semi-straight and really poofy. It looks like a soft afro. I use the maxiglide on the first pass and then another iron on the second one. I only want to wear it straight once a mnth and I can't even do that. Natural ladies, how do I achieve the sleek look?

Have you tried to roller set it first or making big plaits like maybe 3 or 4? to help stretch out your natural curl pattern before flat ironing?

Have you tried the wet-to-dry press? I share about it in this thread and even give links to other threads where people have shared their experience with it.

Please don't go by the first post where I just used water; I later share in the thread how I have improved the technique by using heat protectants and couldn't be more pleased with the success of doing it that way.

Sounds like technique may be off (I did say may lady ;)).

Along with pre-stretched hair, are you straightening in small, thin sections?

What products are you using to flat iron with?

Don't rush the iron over the hair either.

What process are you using before flat ironing? What products are you using, and what heat setting are you setting the irons on?

Trust me, your hair can get straight, if mine can, yours can. I suggest you blow dry with a comb attachment first, then try the comb chase method, here are some videos i think will help of natural flat ironers. Oh how I wish I could do it for you (im not creepy, trust me, i just want to prove you CAN get it straight)

i hope these help, with each attempt, you'll get better so dont worry. Good luck

I have thick 4A hair what i have found to work is:

1. Use a very good moisturizing conditioner
2. Detangle in shower and put into big plaits
3. BLOW DRY each section ( make sure put in heat protection)
-- IMO this is very important, this should actually be when you get it straight ( not bone but roots to ends straight)
4. Flat-iron adding a dab of shine or finisher (I use Aveda finish spray)

*side note- if you only straighten once a month it may take a bit of practice but it is all about the technique, but your hair can get straightened**

Didn't realize we had started the same type of thread on the same day. I have this same problem.

....:naughty:

I'm sure you can get things straight. It takes time, practice, and technique overall! The ladies here can surely give some great input :)

I'm transitioning, but I would straighten my hair by blowdrying as straight as possible and flat-ironing small sections piece-by-piece.
