TRANSITION OVER! 11-22-14
It was easy to WNG with my twa, but now my hair is getting longer and harder to define my curls.:ohwell: I think my technique needs help. Can ladies with WNG skills please help me? I was planning to WNG daily when the weather gets warmer.

I cowash and then use a little bit of the same conditioner that I cowashed with as a leave in... then i use my spray after and shake..

i just co wash and if im using devacurl one condition i leave some in and go. if im using something else then i spray my hair with ojon revitalizing mist and then add my moisturizer(cream) and go.

really damp/soaking wet hair works. instead of towel drying my hair, i would just step out of the shower and put my moisturizer and my gel in.

since my hair is going to be out i make sure that it is well moisturized, especially my ends. i smooth my products onto my hair by sections (about 8--the usual 4 quarters each split in half) and then seal.

I notice that I can't do a WNG for a long period of time. Since my hair has gotten longer it is not as easy and my hair get more tangled, I believe it comes with the territory and it could be why I don't see really long hair nappies doing the WNG. Nonetheless, this is what I have been doing and you can check out my pics of my WNG. I would co-wash with my Aubrey's. Blot it dry. I put some shea butter, a dollop of coconut oil and lots of food grade Aloe vera. I applied it throughout my hair and it was soft, not as defined if I would have used gel but nice enough for me. At night I would section my hair loosely in 6 large twists and tie down. The next morning take down and fluff. I can go about 3 days with this style.
HTH.

Also, I think as your hair is growing it will change a bit. I have noticed that after I did my ACV final rinses, My curls are more defined.

I feel you, every few months I have had to rediscover my WNG because of length and texture changes. It's like my curls are getting looser as my hair grows, but I know it's just them moving down instead of growing out. Here's what I have been doing lately:

1) cowash with HE Hello Hydration (I use a plethora of things -- Organix, HE LTR, Trader Joe's Spa Nourish, etc but this gives me really really good WNGs for some reason)
2) squeeze out the water in the shower
3) wrap a t-shirt around my hair while I towel off
4) if my hair feels "off", I add a little GVP leave-in
5) *optional* seal with jojoba oil
6) if i decide to use gel, lily of the desert aloe vera gelly is the BOMB. this ecostyler is going back.

boom, perfect WNG. lately they have been drying really shiny and soft, but my camera broke. Here is a pic of one from a few weeks ago:

in my fotki i have a few older regimens, like this past fall when i rinsed all the conditioner out and moisturized with baby buttercreme.

i cowash daily with pantene for women of color, aussie smooth:lick:, and or vo5 strawberries and champagne... i just switch it up between these (depending on the day) leave on while i wash my body... rinse and reapply either the strawberries and champagne or aussie smooth as a leave in:yep:
-- recently... i have made a discovery... PINK LOTION... YES... I SAID PINK LOTION:blush: (in an effort to rid products collecting dust), but it truly surpised me and has been making my wash n go's lovely (lil tip, if the curls look a little frizzy or less defined, take denman or comb and only go over those strands around your finger in very small sections only over those areas)... and its soft and shiney all day... i figure with cowashing / washing daily... no harm is done--- wash n go's simplied for me:rolleyes:.

*every couple of days, i may wash to rid the tresses of buildup... and the curls really pop then... at least from my observation... i wash with vo5 kiwi lime poo and conditioner or pantene for women of color, then follow my usual (as listed above).

i have a couple of wash n go's in my fotki, to give an idea of how mine turn out -- used hsr for those (just have not refilled) since i get the same results plus (for less), with my new regimen. hsr is great tho as a conditioner and leave in...

ok so this may sound stupid but, are wng styles best on better grade hair. I've never tried on but, couldn't imagine it looking presentable on my 4b relaxed hair.

:spank: :spank:

Pretending that you meant more tightly curled hair, your wng will be different than from someone who has mostly 4a or 3c hair. I am 4b mostly and I can't really do wngs that much, it leads to tangles, plus it looks like a ham, since I don't have many curls to "define". So I just don't do it. Maybe some other 4bs can chime in

When I wore wash & go's, that is what I always did. I didn't dry or plop my hair when I got out of the shower. I just applied products to already wet hair. Also worked best for me with a liquid leave in and then a gel of some kind. Anything that claimed to be a "curling cream" never really worked for me.

I have at least 3 different textures on my head...I really had to scrunch the top/front because that area is very straight and has no curl at all. The back coiled the best.

Good luck!

Hush with that better grade stuff!!

My sister is a 4b and I will say twistouts/braidouts work best for her. WNGs tend to shrink up and have little curl definition.

Fine hair ladies, what do you do to make your wngs look full. I wait for mine to dry and I kind of pick it out, fluff it up, but it still looks kind of stringry.

These actually work best for me as well...I haven't done a wng in so long, I'm not sure what it would look like now. WHen my hair is wet there is pretty much no curl in the front. It's slightly wavy, that's about it. Meanwhile the back and sides just shrink up until I look like Larry Blackmon from Cameo...circa the Word Up video... :lachen:

What is plop?

Good explanation there...I think it works better if you have longer hair.

Thanks for the help! I am going to see if I can follow some advice, here. I will be doing a wash n go later on as practice.
