Help! My Hair Just Doesn't FEEL Right!

I really don't know what the problem is but my hair doesn't "feel" right! It looks fine when I smoothe it back into a bun but when it's loose, :nono:. My hair USED to "feel" healthy and I'm not sure what is going on these days but I need help.

After I henna and deep condition, it feels really soft but its short-lived. Because of that, I haven't been using henna once a month as I was previously doing. Now, I'm just trying to deep condition every week. I've been deep conditioning with AO HSR, mixed with honey and olive oil. Last week, I thought maybe my hair wanted some protein so I used ORS Hair Mayo. Still, I had the same results - soft initially, then stringy, lifeless, hair.

Have any of you been at this point? What was the problem/ culprit? How did you get your hair to bounce back?

well for starters I love your hair....but I don't know if I can help, but I agree with the other ladies you might have to clarify.......since you don't use chemicals, you shouldn't have a porosity problem......

Is your hair stiff, hard and/or dry lately?

If so, you may be using too much henna (protein)

Gorgeous hair...

As others have said, you should try a clarifying shampoo or clarifying/chelating shampoo. I use Neutrogena Anti-Residue for the former, and Organic Root Stimulator Creamy Aloe Shampoo for the latter (both can be purchased at CVS). If you do clarify, make sure that it's a real clarifying. Supergirl had a similar issue not to long ago and she stated that it was because of buildup from Shea Butter and maybe other waxes (beeswax comes to mind) and that she wasn't really clarifying when she thought that she was. You may have product buildup that's not silicone-based at all and not even know it.

Good luck and keep us updated on those gorgeous locks!

You ladies may be onto something. Yes, I've clarified a couple of times with V05 Herbal Clarifying shampoo.

Textured Tresses - :yep: gunky is definitely a good word to describe it!

Tiffers - yes, yes, and yes! Will discontinuing with henna for a bit correct the issue? Or is there something else I can do to speed it along?

it sounds like you may have a combination of issues starting with a need to clarify - try adding baking soda to the shampoo you're using. After clarifying, I suggest porosity control or an acv rinse - something to lower the pH, and then a deep moisturizing conditioner - put it on, put on the bag, a sit under the dryer fo 15-30ish minutes at least, and then super, duper rinse.
