I am seriously considering a relaxer and I'm in a dilemma. I have been natural for 1 year and 3 months and my hair has grown quite a bit. My protective style included sew-ins all the time but now they are too hot for me and I live in Texas so the hotness and humidity is not what's up. I be sweating bricks and hot all the time with that extra hair. I have tried to survive without a relaxer by putting a sew-in recently, but I took it out in less than 3 days up to 4 times in a two week period because of the hotness.
I know I can do some natural styles but I don't think I would look too up to par with them. Plus, my hair is about 6-7 inches long and I don't prefer shrinkage or braidouts and prefer the straight look. When I try to flat iron my hair, it will only stay straight for about 6 hours before it poofs back up.
I am asking anyone if they know of any alternatives before I relax again. This is really irritating and I want a cute style for my hair without damaging it that I can easily maintain daily. However, I will consider relaxing again if I have to. Please help me out if you have had this problem before or know of a solution.

I was about to say this! For the entire year and couple months you have been natural, you have hidden it under weave and wigs, plus you state you don't like wearing braidouts or shrinkage and you prefer to wear your hair straight. Unfortunately if your natural hair texture is in the 4s (and some 3s as well) you are going to have to deal with shrinkage and poofiness every time you get it wet or are faced with any type of humidity.
I can't do straight hair without alot of prep/product during the summer.
