Are/Is there anything/products that wil;l help with the longevity of holding a curl...

I put rollers in hair, went to work and they had already fallen... :perplexed... Waste of time, Lol...Ended up puttin into a pony...

Note: I did rollerset hair but I dont think I put enough leave-in... I set curls with just oil, in NYC it has been muggy/rainy so far this week..

On your natural hair? Girl you know you need more than oil!! lol

Try some ors lock and twist gel. That stuff is gooood

Is this something you're just recently noticing, or has this always happened to you? Most of the time, if I notice my hair isn't holding a curl, it's because it's damaged or it's time for a trim. If this is something new you might want to inspect your hair for signs of damage.

If this always happens to you, I agree with the use of a setting lotion. My favorite one is KeraCare Setting Lotion. Never crispy and holds a curl like I don't know what. I also like Design Essential Naturals Setting Lotion. It comes in a spray bottle so it's really convenient. I know you're not natural but I assume it would work for you as well.

GreenEyedJen , I do not think my hair is damaged, it really never holds a curl unless it is a fresh set from beauty parlor, or I set self using a particular setting lotion... I guess dry curling with oil is not going to do trick... :perplexed... I am going to give it another go tonight with a lil setting lotion...

I do have Fine hair...

Ugh... Fine hair doesnt really hold a curl, especially when straightened. It was worse when it was relaxed and texlaxed. I actually had to use hairspray to hold my style.

Hot curled styles lasted the time to walk outside. Wet sets held at least for a couple of hours before they fell.

Sorry. Its kind of the nature of the fine-haired beast. :/

When I was relaxed and texlaxed, my hair never held a curl either. I never found out why. Just figured my hair was destined to be like that.

What you both are describing is exactly what used to happen to me. I wouldn't classify my strands as fine though. Will research how to tell if your hair is fine. It's extremely thick, always has been, but my stands may very well be fine. Will check for sure and report back.

This explains a lot. I never understood why I couldn't get my hair to hold a curl when it was relaxed.

i agree that leave-in is not enough...since you have fine strands setting lotion is key. use a tiny bit of leave-in under it then mist with setting lotion.

Truth. :yep:

AnjelLuvsUBabe, I'm texlaxed too. The only real sets I do are with flexis. I start with air-dried hair and then use a mixture of something creamy, something liquid-y, and water in a spray bottle. I usually use Lacio Lacio and Aphogee green tea and keratin. I think it's the protein in that combo that holds my curl. They come out soft and moisturized and hold for about a week. The mix could probably be improved with a little Lottabody, though. I have the carrot and and keratin, but I haven't used it yet. Hth.

My dry sets only last if they're maintaining a previous wet set...you know? Like I wet set it Sat and I'm just maintaining the curls during the week. If I'm doing a different set dry, then I need to use something wet. If you use setting lotion, go ahead and dilute it. I plan to do a perm rod set on my dry hair, but will set w/ some kind of water-based leave-in.

Oh! And sometimes too much oil can cause this. Since it's weighing the hair down. I actually like a lil weight sometimes, but that does mean the curls get weighed, so not a problem if you're just going for a bump look.

My hair is extremely fine, too :yep: Try the KeraCare. I'll try to find a picture of my hair curled with it and update this post.

i have fine hair as well. you need a setting lotion or wrap form lotion. make sure you don't use too much leave-in or oil on your hair. that will make your curls limp too.

I agree, I haven't had an issue with curls holding since my niece introduce me to Bronner Brothers Foam Wrap Lotions. I use it now every time I rollset. I have soft curls that last until my next wash a week later.

Turns out I do have fine hair :/ There is just a whole lot of it. I have been wrong about my own hair for years.
