hi all,
I have been experiencing major hair breakage/shedding. It has been 6 weeks since I had a relaxer. I have been using a no-lye relaxer and now I am switching to Motions(lye). My question is has anyone ever heard of this hair breakage recipe and/or has anyone ever tried this? I also need to know whether to relax now (this weekend) then try this 32 day recipe or do the recipe first, then relax afterwards. I really really need some help baaaaaaaddddd. I have been doing conditioner washes and it has really help make my perm last longer; I usually relax every 4 weeks. Please anyone with some info respond...

Hi Michelle007,

Welcome!

Can you post the breakage recipe you are talking about? Also, what is your hair type? Have you considered going for a longer period of time in between touch-ups? Every 4 weeks sounds like a lot of relaxing. That might be a contributing factor to your problem. If you find that you must relax that often, perhaps you can try switching relaxer brands.

If you are already using the Motions line, you should try the CPR shampoo and conditioner. It reduces breakage in one application, and with constant use, you should see results. I agree with Pebbles that touch-ups every 4 weeks are too much. You should try to hold out for another 2 or 3 weeks. With deep conditiong treatments and input from others on this board, you will achieve healthy hair in no time.

Pebbles and Butterscotch,
Thanks for your quick response. You guys suggested that I wait another 2 or 3 weeks. I am into my 6th week now, so should I still hold off?

Pebbles,
My hair type is 4a and I read this hair breakage recipe on the Motions web site. I have been doing conditioner washes and this has helped me stretch out my relaxer this time for 6 weeks.

I would definitely wait another 2 weeks.

In the mean time, before your next relaxer do a protein treatment along with other moisturizing deep conditioning treatments. Also, do some research on other lye relaxers. Motions may not be giving you the desired results, therefore causing you to relax too frequently. After your next touch-up, start the 32 day breakage recipe. Your should see a change and experience less breakage. Whatever you do, try to hold off relaxing your hair to at least every 8-10 weeks. You don't have to go longer than that if your hair grows in really fast or if you start to experience breakage, but try not to do it more often. That will really dry out your hair and cause a lot of breakage/damage.

Re: HELP!!!!!!!!! Motions 32 day hair breakage recipe

Hey Michelle,

A lot of women with type 4 hair do not get the desired results they're looking for with Motions. If your hair starts to look like it's reverting too soon, then definitely switch relaxer brands. The other thing to keep in mind is that a lye relaxer will not straighten out the parts of your hair that were relaxed with a no-lye relaxer. So don't get too distressed about it. As your hair grows out, you can gradually trim it away. That's what I've had to do. Look into Mizani, Affirm, Design Essentials, Elucence, Revlon, just to name a few other good relaxers.

I agree...you should wait another two weeks. In addition to the protein treatment and deep conditioners, try to find some 100% pure coconut oil (the kind that melts at 73 degrees). Coconut oil softens the hair, and for some people it even straightens.

I have never used Motions relaxer before, but some I have tried are Designer's Touch and Affirm, and those worked pretty well for me (almost too well
