HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea what to do. I have scalp eczema and for the last 3 weeks or so my scalp has been excessively dry. To date I have been using moegro oil but, my hair just keeps breaking (this is in addition to the dry scalp). I take my vitamins religiously (MSM, biotin, omega (3,6,9), multivitamin and vitamin c).

I thought perhaps I was washing my hair too much but if I drop back then crud builds up on my scalp.

The first pic was taken on 11/17/08. The second pic was taken on 12/4/2008.

In the second pic you can see my scalp inflamed.

If you guys have any suggestions please let me know.

Here are a list of my products:
Biolage (conditioner); deep condition three times per week
Herbal essence (shampoo); I shampoo once per week
Moegro oil (every other day)
Aloe (every time I deep condition or shampoo)

I don't know, maybe I should switch to a an over the counter hair grease. Maybe I should go all natural. I thought I was doing that with the moegro oil and that doesn't seem to be helping.

Oh wow, that looks like it REALLY itches!

Since you use MoeGrow, have you tried using aloe vera juice by itself? Aloe has great healing properties. I'd imagine it would help a lot!

Do you a shampoo with SLS in it? That could be contributing to the problem

What kind of conditioners and moisturizers do you use?

You probably have to see a specialist and get the right treatment if its really bad

but my daughter had a spot in her scalp for years, I kept it under control with natural oils and butters, and sometimes tea tree oil treatments (they can sting but it kills all fungus) and Aloe Vera

its really hard to say what will help such a severe case, but the recipe your using might have aggravating ingredients

I would steer clear of that for now and go back to simple things that you know have given you relief in the past, do you know of any one thing or more that gave you relief before? if so, drop everything else and go back to that

but I still think you should see a doc

I would say trying going to a dermatologist, you might be able to get something prescription strength to keep your scalp moist.

Another option maybe to try a scalp conditioner, like Aveda scalp remedy, using it like a leave in and not washing it out.

I hope you find a solution. Good luck.

Okay, I just saw what you added to the post

I'd steer clear from the HE shampoo, since it's full of sulfates. Do you have any natural poos on hand?

I think you should try to stay as natural as possible with the products. Make Giovanni and Aubrey Organics your best friends

You said you use alow after each wash, do you mean you rub the aloe vera juice onto your scalp?

How long have you been using MoeGro? What do you have in it? Could it be an allergic reaction?

I just tried to think of what I would do right off the bat for me or my daughter with inflammation like that, I would make sure the scalp is clean first with something mild like witch hazel, then I would do one of the anti-inflammitory oils, such as fish , flax seed. or primose or borage , Olive oil is one too

It could definitely be an allergic reaction. I am allergic to everything (seafood, dust, humidity, etc.). But, I thought because it was more or less all natural that I wouldl be in safe territory. As for your earlier post regarding what has worked for me in the past and I am drawing a blank.

Aloe, yes I use teh aloe plant and scrape the slime and put on my scalp and rub it in. Aloe has been kind to my face for years so I will pick some up tonight and try it.

I will also back down on the thrice weekly washings. Maybe that will help my dry scalp.

I don't know. I am flailing in the wind here.

My son was younger i USED every HAIR regemedy i could think of nothin worked,
so Finally i took him to a dermetoloigst ,That stuff they gave him u can go pick it up from WALGREENS its priceless (noooooo)expensive.

I have ezcema on my legs and have a tube of cream from the dermatologist. If you're scalp is actually getting inflamed and weepy, then maybe the doc could prescribe something that will help. Seems if it gets really bad, maybe over-the-counter will not cut it. Unfortunately, I have nothing else to offer.....:ohwell:

I think you should go see a doctor and see what they recommend. In the meantime, I would stop using Herbal Essence shampoo; that may be making it worse. Try using something natural and gentle; I would probably just use pure African black soap.

Make an appt with the derm just to get an official diagnosis because your scalp could be infected.

Stop with the HE poo IMMEDIATELY! Not saying it is the culprit but there is doubt in my mind that it is aggravating your eczema. Try washing your hair with something natural like castle soap (stay from so called natural poos like giovanni which contains olefin sulfonate which is very drying. AO poos are quite drying also) Also stop the biolage for a while esp if you wanna go natural. AO HSR would be a better alternative.

You can try chamomile, tea tree, aloe vera to sooth your scalp or a hydrocortisone cream which was the only thing that worked for the dry patches on my sons scalp.

How long have you been using the moegro oil? did you make it yourself or did you order it from moe?

Moegro oil contain horsetail which causes itchiness within some people. If you are prone to allegies that is probably what is causing the inflamed scalp. I would reseach horsetail extract and herbs . But mean while I would stop using it and stop using the shampoo (sulfates may make it worse) use an organic conditioner for cowash and take antihistamine such as claritin or benadryl for the itches. hope that helps.

try using a combination of mn = monistat and sulfur 8 (if you don't want to use this, try olive oil) and apply to your scalp. the mn will heal the fungus, which i think there may be and soothe the inflammation. i'd apply it dialy...you should also feel relief in that area immediately...

I have pretty bad eczema all over my body. I mostly keep it under control these days - people who aren't close to me wouldn't guess that I have it.

Go to a doctor at least. Dermatologist is even better. When your skin is inflamed, it's MUCH BETTER to actually get medication. Natural remedies and even store bought remedies can help, but imo they are best for prevention and mild flare ups.

In the mean time, get a light carrier oil and mix up some tea tree oil and lightly oil your scalp daily. It's best to keep your scalp CLEAN (to prevent infection), but not stripped. I agree that the herbal essences may not be the best option, if you can't get a better shampoo anytime soon, try diluting it and spraying it directly on the scalp.

It's also good that you use aloe vera, it promotes healing and moisturizes. You want to keep your scalp clean, but not dried out. I'd stop using moegro because it's obviously not helping it clear up.

Ladies, thank you so much for your advice. I have a derm that I see and I will make an appointment with him on monday. I will also try the monistat and sulfur 8 and see what happens.

Damn, I was doing so good.

This has always been my problem, my hair will grow and then it will start falling for one reason or another. Anyways, like I said previously, you guys gave me some good ideas and some things to think about. The moegroe oil is gone (I made it myself). The shampoo is finished and I will not buy anymore. I was using Burt's Bee's as a shampoo and conditioner but it wasn't giving me a good cleanse. I am going to try J/A/S/O/N and see how that works. The good news is that my hair is still short enough that I don't feel the need to cut it all off and start from scratch.

I am on a budget (really tight budget) so if you have any cheap of homemade products that you wanna recommend that would be awesome.

Thanks

I had to go to the dermatologist and he put me on clobetasol and that go rid of my problem. I had psoriasis though. Head and Shoulders worked really well because it has sulfur in it... Ihad to stop because I am allergic to sulfur! Grrrrrrr! Any of the dandruff shampoos have it in them. Tea tree oil shampoo might help. I know Giovanni's makes one. Oils and grease are probably not a good idea at the moment. Aloe vera might help.

If I were you I would stop all the stuff you are using. Moe grow is a mixture of herbs you could be allergic. Starte using a non SLS Shampoo. I would even recommend baby Shampoo Hypoallergenic and good moisturizing conditioner. Use Joboba oil on your scalp and to seal in moisture. Keep away the rest of the stuff. Slowly start to reintroduce them back one at a time.

I went to the Derm yesterday and he gave me some foam stuff and told me to wash with Nutrogena T Gel. I did take your suggestion and mix monistat (I was so embarrassed buying it) and sulfur 8 together and today my scalp looks WAAAYYYYY better.

I think part of the problem was my excessive dry skin and I wasn't getting enough lubrication on the scalp from the oil. But, before I get carried away I am going to watch what happens with the sulfur 8/monistat mix.

Thank you all!!!!!!!!

My daughter had what looks like the same thing you had... it was seborric dermitis and it made her scalp bleed and her hair started to breakoff and come out... we went to the derm and they gave us an extra strength Nizoral and a cream to apply that helped shred the dead skin... after that we maintained with t-gel it's drying but it clears it up pretty well... we went through a lot of things before the perscription through... good luck hin and get the the dr. ASAP

I hope you're doing better. I've dealt with eczema my entire life. When I was a kid, it was very bad. It was horrible to look at. Now, I have it pretty much under control. If I don't moisturize enough I might get a dry spot on my body but I can usually get rid of it quickly. I use glysolid cream followed by an oil for my skin. ( www.glysolid.com . It's the best skin moisturizer I've ever used. It literally changed my life!)

As expected, the winter months with dry air are the worse. I avoid using soaps and shampoos with SLS (as other ladies have said). Previously, I used Nizoral shampoo. That worked as well.

I can tell when I'm getting that familiar itch. My immediate and best scalp remedy is a tea tree shampoo and a steam treatment. During the winter I steam once to twice a week. It does wonders for my scalp and hair. After steaming, any tingles are gone and I feel healthy.

Oh and a humidifier helps, too!

I have the same thing your daughter had. The Dr. gave me some foam and told me to use Nutrogena T-Gel. So far I am doing good.

What have you been using on your daughter's hair since?

I have a suggestion. I have eczema, had it for years. I use a shampoo bar called Chagrin Valley Neem and Tea Tree. The eczema is gone, gone, gone. All natural. No mess. No junk. Sample bars are $2.60 and full bars are $6.60. A full bar will last on average about 5-6 weeks, as it doesn't take much to lather them up. This may be helpful.
What else has worked for scalp problems? Their Rosemary Mint, Neem and Tea Tree, Nettle (that's sold out), Herb Garden...Give it a try. Neurogena T-Gel can be really harsh! I know from firsthand experience...

I had this too. My derm prescribed a foam, an antibiotic, and an ointment.
