AllI can say is bless you for taking on your auntie's hair care needs. I'm a newbie to hair myself and can't offer any expert opinions but I'm just curious - is she relaxed? Her hair looks so very straight? Perhaps hold off on relaxing if she is and concentrate on growing some hair into the bald spots first? I've also heard that with rogaine, you have to keep using it to maintain the hair growth and once you stop the growth stops/falls off. I don't know how true this is, but if it is, then maybe you guys are better off using something else.... natural herbs/oils; megatek, OCT maybe? I don't know, just suggesting.

I wish you both a journey full of rewards and I wish your auntie a quick recovery honey. Take care! J x

You don't say what her hair was like before her stroke; it is quite possible the thinning is a result of the illness and medications.

Check out the skinbio website: http://www.folligen.com/folligenforwomen.html and http://reverseskinaging.com/studies12.html- you might consider folligen therapy in addition to the rogaine - it's supposed to work well at regrowing hair. Also check her vitamin and mineral intake. Try a multivitamin with whole foods like Nature's Way Alive or some similar brand. A liquid vitamin may be better than pills too.

her has always been thin but in like the last 5 to 6 years is when it started to fall out and I also think she should hold off on the relaxer but I don't think I can talk her in to but we will see

I'm not a fan of Rogaine because not only does it not grow back the same type of hair you lost, but rather finer almost invisible hair, but the minute you stop, that hair all falls off. So I'd rather go with the other methods suggested. Dr Pickart (www.skinbiology.com) does recommend minoxidil--which is the main ingredient in Rogaine--but only together with Folligen. Apparently Folligen thickens the hair you get from minoxidil. There's a forum so you can get answers from the horse's mouth if you have questions.

I shared a natural concoction I used to grow in a bald spot in the thread below. Later on in the thread, I give a link to another website that has info on hair loss, so check it out: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=39645

Another website worth checking out is www.hairloss-reversible.com
