I am currently SL, but I am aiming for BSL and I would love to be mid back length. I'm attaching pictures with my face blurred out! I actually really wouldn't mind if y'all saw my face, but the fact that it's a public forum kind of sways me towards being overly cautious.
Some background: I went fully natural March of 2012, after having had the front part of my (then) relaxed hair shaved in the front because I had emergency brain surgery in February 2012. My mom was a licensed cosmetologist for over 20 years, and she's the only one who has ever done my hair with the exception of two other stylists, myself, and one of my friends. She did my "big chop" for the rest of my hair that wasn't shaved from surgery!
Anyway, I cut my hair 3 times in 2012. Once in March, again in July, and the last time in December. Here is a picture from the last time I had short hair and my last neurosurgeon appointment. This was me and my neurosurgeon

Ever since then, my hair has been growing but I know it should be longer than it is! I'm just not sure what I need to do. I don't even know what my hair type is, but it has a "square" kind of curl. Does that make any sense?! I'll try and find a picture to share when I have product in it for a wash n go, maybe you can see it then.
I just had my first trim last month, in over a year. I only straighten my hair for trims. Otherwise, it's usually in twists and then a twist out. I have just jumped on the Curlformers train (last week) and I LOVE them. I'll have to wait until it's not so humid though, before I do another set with them.
Here is a collage of my hair from the last trim last July 2014 (left) and most current trim, October 2015 (right). It was very humid the day I had my trim, and I only did it that day because I wanted to see if Aveda Brilliant Anti Humectant held up to its price tag!! Haha, it worked, but nothing would really be effective against 90% humidity and I did end up being rained on, so the poof came out to play!

Okay, so any thoughts? Suggestions? I've just recently put my Denman in the drawer in exchange for finger detangling and the Wet brush, because I was losing so much hair (even wet detangling with a slip conditioner) using the Denman.
I am a major PJ and I'm really needing to simplify to a few "holy grail" products and technique. I have lurked these boards for over a year and finally decided after this last trim that I want to see my hair at its fullest potential, so I bought a 2 year membership to the board. I know if anyone can help me figure this out on my own (I only trust 4 people with my hair, no stylists/salons for me) it would be y'all!
Thanks everyone!
Edited to add:
Here is a picture of my hair during a wash day break (this was earlier this year, I think it's grown since then) when I just had conditioner in it. I still haven't found one that shows my curls defined with product, but I have ORS replenshing pak in right now and I'm trying to decide what to do with my hair that will keep my hands out of it for a week or so. I have SERIOUS hand in hair syndrome, and I'm sure that is not helping my hair goals at all!
