Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

Okay okay I'll admit it Im cheap! Well okay not cheap per se but lets just say unemployed which as a result, I have to save pennies. Anywho, could somebody recommend moisturizers and deep conditioners that actually work that are under $10 and are available in stores and gives the similar results as more expensive brands? (no online shopping...remember I'm saving money here! lol)

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

I have had much success with LeKair's Cholestrol. It is the tub of green goo. It detangles like nobody's business and my hair air dries really soft. I buy it in Harlem for $1.99. Around my way, it is about $2.49 and that is the most I have ever paid for it. ORS Hair Mayo is good too for a deep conditioner. It is around $8. As for a moisturizer, good old olive oil or coconut oil will do the trick. You could also rack up at Sally's with the generic brands of salon products.

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

I think that the green type and about two others are on sale for about $.99 at Sally's for the month of October. If you want to be really teach use and egg and mayonaisse mixture as your protein treatment. I started out using Queen Helene's Placenta creme as my first protein for about 2.99 or less. It is not very strong but it works it does contain SLS though.

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

Lustrasilk Cholesterol is good to in terms of conditioners.

Another good deep conditioner is HI PRO PAC...$2.99 or so.

A good moisturizer...

Secret Weapon
Perm Repair
Kemi Oyl
Vitapointe

All under $10 and used together (nto all of them but one or two) can be even better. I rec. these because they are standard AND good.

I PERSONALLY don't use these (I have at some time or another I PROMISE you

) because have a moisturizing combo that I keep going back to that is particularly economical for me - St. Ives Vanilla and Edelweiss Conditioner and Fantasia IC Serum with Aloe. The combo keeps my hair ultra soft and moisturized. And because the bottles are HUGE, I don't see myself running out of them ANY time soon.

Ayeshia, tight wad is good

(although I prefer to think of it as being economical

). I'd like to add to the suggestions listed above Clairol Herbal Essence's Fruit Fusion conditioners, esp. the Hydrating Conditioner.

Olive oil is an inexpensive preshampoo treatment or a post-shampoo treatment that can help seal moisture into your hair. I like Elasta QP's line (I get it from Sally's Beauty Supply), esp. the H-Two Leave-in Conditioner (moisturizer; I pay less than $5 for 8 oz.) and the Feels Like Silk (moisturizing gel for slicking my hairline back; I pay less than $5 for this too). And finally, although it didn't work for my hair
ohwell.gif
, I have seen many raves on this board for Pantene Smooth & Sleek conditioner.

Oh yes, and how could I forget! Distilled water! (1 gallon for under $1!) Fabulous results, love it, love it, love it!

Good luck!

LustraSilk is an excellent conditioner! I also use it in my homemade mist concoction. .99-$1.89; Sally's .99; Walmart $1.99

Distilled water, .59 for a gallon @ Walmart

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

While I like to splurge on luxurious products for my hair, I also like the fact that I am able to obtain recommendations from the Forum members re: low-cost but effective hair care products.

Besides, the mall is a 20-mile round trip from where I live, mail order is expensive, once shipping and handling is added, and Sally's Beauty Supply is about five minutes away!

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

Diez un uno... 2.99
Le Kair Cholesterol.. about 2 dollars
IC Daily Conditioner... less than 2 dollars
Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner...4.99 each
Mane and Tale Shampoo and Conditioner...3.99 each

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

Zoe, how big is your Mane and Tail Conditioner? I pay $9.99 for the 32 oz one. I'll be real peeved if I coulda been getting it that much cheaper. And we are talking about Hoofmaker, right?

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

Nonie, around my way the 32 oz. is, I believe $5.99 for the Original Formula.
The Deep Moisturizing Formula is 4.99 for about 12 oz.

I've never seen the Hoofmaker? Tell me all about it!

Ayeshia,

It's okay to be a tight wad

I have learned that less expensive doesn't necessarily mean it's an inferior product. Now, on the whole--I believe that salon quality products have higher quality ingredients BUT each individual's hair is different. Someone's hair may respond better to a product that's not all expensive and salon only...

Example--I spent $28 on a bottle of Clinique Firming Lotion when a bottle of Nivea with 2X the lotion cost $6.99 and works SO MUCH BETTER!

Also, look at our board member Jade who has knee-length hair. (I think she may have cut it back to waist length) and I rarely hear Jade mention a salon product.

So find something that works for you that's in your price range. It's out there

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

I just checked their website and Hoofmaker seems to be a lotion

Got me all excited too, nonie

If she cut it to waist length, then this is news to me. I last remember her going from knee length to butt length.

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

Oh BTW Soulchild, I have a white friend whose mother uses Hoofmaker as a protein conditioner so...

I've never met her mom so don't know what state her mom's hair is in, but I'd rather just stick to the conditioner.

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

Yeah thats the one I have... never heard of the one u were talking about...

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

Zoe, I wasn't talking about any other one but that very one. Just got the name mixed up with the hand cream.

Re: Help I\'m a tight wad!!!!!!

Elasta qp's Dpr-11 is great. It has no protein and moisturizes very well... but it's kinda thick so it doesn't detangle well. It's about 5 or 6 dollars.
