I'm 11 weeks post relaxer & i'm transitioning to natural (which i'm serioulsy reconsidering right now). My hair is impossible to comb through after I wash it. Conditioners aren't helping. my hair always gets like this when I need a relaxer. Aaaahhhhhh!!!!!! I was soooooooo tempted to just relax it this morning. I don't know what stopped me. Please help me with any suggestions you have on a great hair detangler. I don't know how much longer I can do this transitiong thing.

I tried and really like Sally's version of Paul Mitchell's The Detangler. Gives tons of slip and leaves my hair soft and manageable.

hmm have you tried Mane and Tail Detangler? It worked great for me when detangling my hair after braids.

I am currently transitioning and I only detangle under running water with conditioner.

I am glad you posted rather than rushing to relax, 11 weeks is good progress. Good Luck!

wash your hair in 4-6 plaits if its medium length or longer....i use kbb hair milk as my detangler. also a hardcore protein treatment every 4-6 weeks may help cause it will strength your hair especially along the demarcation line. good luck.

bumping for the op...................................

have you heard of the 'relaxer method' to applying your conditioner?

melts away my kinks and knots. no detangler needed after i condition. and i usually haven't combed my hair for 1-2 weeks prior to conditioning using the 'relaxer method'

Im a little further in my strech than u (13weeks) and after I shampoo and deep condition my hair is a tangled dry mess and for that I use Shescentit Avocado conditioner and itworks every time! My hair comes out so soft and detangled

My two favorites are Mane N Tail Detangler and Paul Mitchell, The Detangler (you can get the GVP version at Sally's).

Washing my hair in braids, usually about 4, also keeps tangles at bay.

Good luck!

Mane N Tail Detangler or Kids Organic Shea Butter Moisturizing Detangling Lotion (or somethin like that. long asp name) ♥

First of all, if your hair is medium to long in length you need to start to put you hair in 8-10 braids prior to washing, and keep them in from wash to DC to avoid encountering tangles in the first place.

Thus far, my favorite detanglers are Trader Joe's NourishSpa Conditioner and Aussie Moist Conditioner:yep:

You all are amazing. Thank you so much. This is the first I'm hearing of braiding my hair before I wash & then wash & condition with the braids in. This is genius. I will try this next week. Thank you all for your help.

Nymphe, You use Cetaphil as a hair detangler?

westNDNbeauty, What is the "relaxer method"?

Do I put the detangler on my hair with the braids in or do I take them out before I apply the detangler?

I am 10 months deep into my transition and my hair is naturally very fine and dry and tangly. I have tried to follow all the 'healthy hair' suggestions eg airdrying, washing in sections, only combing with tons of conditioner in the hair and none really work for me.

I have to first of all make sure i blowdry the hair and keep it stretched until my next wash. Airdrying causes tangles before i even start.

When its wash day my hair is already tangle free but i do finger comb it out first.

I deep condition on dry hair and then rinse, then apply shampoo(make sure its sulphate and paraben free) to the roots only. This is important so you're not drying out and tangling the length of your hair. Washing in sections is something i cannot do. I seem to cause more tangling and no matter how i secure the ends it all unravels. I tip my head to the left and then to the right so in effect i'm working on just two sections with my hair hanging down.

I then lightly sqeeze my hair with a t-shirt to get the excess water out and apply a conditioner - one for very dry hair - apply in sections so every strand is covered. Working on soaking wet hair is a no-no for me.

I then finger comb in sections and then go over with my Ouidad comb and then rinse. I then wrap my hair up for 5 minutes.

After my leave-in's i apply a serum. This helps with helping my Denman brush glide through - again in sections and gets the last of the shed hair out.

I find not fully removing the shed hair in the first place contributes to the tangles.

Its not always about product but finding the right technique for you, taking advice from everyone and then forumlating your own unique routine.

Hope this helps.

If there's a Dollar Tree in your area, you could get an awesome detangler for a DOLLAR! I'm cheap so that excites me. It's called Breck's Kids Detangler and it is WONDERFUL! It detanglers my hair like no other.....but I haven't tried any other detanglers since I've been relaxed. But I know conditioners and moisturizers don't give me slip at ALL!

I saturate my hair with this stuff BEFORE I wash and detangle my hair in 4 sections. Afterwords,I shampoo, so I keep my hair in the sections while washing and it doesnt tangle back up. Then the conditioners give me enough slip to finger comb.

I found mixing a hair serum into your conditioners and used as an agent afterward works. Try Biosilk or IC hair polish.

^^thats a good idea (Bossylady1). In my post i mentioned serums really help with detangling. I'll try adding to conditioner too.
