I know it is possible. I have searched and can't find any information on here about how to use a 1" flat iron to curl hair. Can any one help me out?

Are you talking about bumping or spiral like curls? Use it like a curling iron.

Bumping -- when you get close to the end of your hair, keep sliding the iron but start to turn it like a curling iron.

Spiral -- slide and twist from the roots

You have to keep turning the iron so you dont get that line in your hair.

Am I explaining that right? HTH

I use the technique that LHD described

For a more feathered look I glide the flat iron down the hair and slightly flip "up" at the ends.

have you tried it yet?

no, I was lazy. I want to try this on clean fresh hair to see the effects with minimum product on my hair. Imma use my aphogee pro-vitamin leave in and my vidal sassoon color secure leave in--blow dry it, or sit under the hood, and then flat iron it, before adding any oils. I just haven't felt like it and today I did both my babies heads--wash, dc, and braid so I wasn't feeling doing anything to my own hair hopefully tomorrow.

the earlier posts pretty much sum it up. i was "slick" *translated-"lazy"* and replaced my old worn out flat iron with one that has convex/concave plates. you can so stick straight or when you use the techniques above, it looks like it was done w/ a curling iron minus the line. i really like it.
