Help for VERY dry ends.....

I'm desperate for some advice before I end up cutting off my hair.
I rollerset my hair last night and my ends look so dry and horrible.

The ends are not split but they just look parched. I'm very tempted to just cut them off since they don't look good.
Is there anything that I can to put some life back into my dry ends or is the best thing to do is to do a trim?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What products did you use? When I rollerset I use a liquid leave in (motions) and a serum(IC Hair Polisher/silken seal) and my ends are fine, they are silky and soft, not dry at all. I think that maybe you should deep condition or do a treatment before you consider trimming, if its not split, i dont think you need to.

Try moistening them..(not wetting since you did you're rollerset) with infusium, or s-curl or something like that, then applying oil and wrap your hair to smooth them out.

next time you do your rollerset make sure the ends are smooth.

my ends tend to resemble what you are referring to when i rush through it and don't smooth them out before putting the roller in, also when my hair isn't wet.

i'm so sorry to hear this. i'm not an expert on products and all that but please do try something before cutting your ends. I've had times where my ends just were looking really ughhh but it was just that i may have been ignoring them or they were really just having a bad week.

My old standby (and since doing this i havent had a bad "ends day") is Vaseline on the ends and bunning up and my ends are always soft. I've also been using Profectiv which DSD gave me that i put on my ends and bun up my hair and they look great. -- jainygirl

Try S-curl no drip. Use it morning and night on the ends only. Keep those ends tucked in and do a dusting every once in awhile. This method has worked for me. Good luck.

ohhhh please don't cut them off if they aren't split. You can work on moisture - I use a mixture of botanical oil (from Design Essentials), olive oil and carrot oil. I also did the vaseline baggie method for awhile to help.

Thank you for the tips!

I do not want to cut my ends. I had been lazy about moisturizing my ends faithfully since I had been doing the wash n go for awhile. I'm going to pick up some s-curl and reup on my Breakfree and bun or phonypony it for a couple of days.

i agree... oils work wonders on dry ends as does vaseline, i believe leejure swears by this method and her locks r lovely.

Just try for at least 2 months to keep ur ends well moisturized and protected and lastly, try not to let them rub against cotton/wool (only satin, silk or skin)

Could bunning (or ponytails) be an option for you?

I'm going to bun or phonypony it for a couple of months to help my ends get moisturized. I usually wear my hair down curly but I don't moisturize my ends very well when I do it because my hair touches my shoulders and I don't want moisturizer on me or my clothes.

i know this is not going to be very popular answer, but when my ends look dry like yours, i oil them and then flat iron them. it works for ME and i have not seen any damage from doing so.

I could see that as an option because that would be like sealing the ends. I thought about doing that w/ the foil but my flat iron is electric and I'm not sure if I can do that w/ an electric flat iron.

arege,
that DOES make sense because when I get my hair flat ironed at the salon, my ends look great and I get barely any shedding or breakage for the length of time till I wash it out and the "sleek" look gets washed away. I can run the comb through my hair and wrap it at night without any breakage. Then when my hair goes back to its regular texture, I get the usually slight shedding/breakage again.

Its confusing though bc most thing heat=bad but sealing the hair helps to prevent a lot of breakage from manipulation......hmmm....

Girl, you have got to try the baggie technique. This helped me combat my dry ends problem I had last year! Good Luck!

Cutting your ends off only because they are dry doesn't solve anything - you'll just have dry ends again except with shorter hair. Focusing on keeping your ends moisturized at all times with the products suggested here works wonders. Sometimes when airdrying our hair ends can look not so good but they are not damaged. It's all about the technique. Rollersetting will give you nice, smooth ends if the hair is smooth all the way to the end on the roller while still wet.

Good suggestions.. Moisturize as much as possible to combat the dryness.. seal in moisture and leave-ins with oil or a heavier dressing like Elasta QP Mango butter/Profectiv Breakfree. To make them look good, either roller-set while really wet and roll the ends really well. Or flat iron - but that should not be an everyday fix.. it may do more damage in the long run to your ends. Monitor them - you defintely have no need to cut unless they are split. Thing is, if you cut off the frizzies now, the fresh ends will evntually look that way unless you get a system in place.

I will not be cutting off my hair now.

I'm just going to do the baggie technique, focus on keeping my ends as possible moisturized. Even though I'm not fond of buns (I have a fat face), I'm going to bun it up for awhile so I can keep the ends moisturized at all times.
