I asked before but thought I would try again under a more enticing title. Whenever I wash and airdry my texturized hair, it takes several days and a bottle of wave nouveau/glycerin to get it remoisturized so that it stops drawing up into a 'fro. Any suggestions?
Do you put moisturizer on it when it's wet or dry? Typically, if you moisturize while your hair is wet, then it will dry moisturized.
If that's not it then maybe it's your moisturizer. Do have any others that may work better?
______ETA, also do you use a leave-in? That may help too.
I agree w/Chanteuse. Moisturizing while wet is very important, it's like the base coat for moisture. After your leave-in, you probably need a heavy butter, like shea, to really lock in the moisture. Unrefined coconut may be helpful as well. I've recently added aloe vera gel to my oil/butter mixture after washing and it's really helps w/moisture retention. I put the mixture on my ends twice a day too (oils/butters only on the length). Be careful using it on the length of the hair when "styled" b/c it is high in water content and will make you revert. As far as shrinking... you let me know when someone finds a cure!!
My Mom is texturizd and she loves Sta-Sof-Fro and some of the ladies on the board uses it also. You may also try a mixture of EVOO(extr virgin olive oil) with your conditioner and leave on for 30-60 minutes.
Thanks ladies. So here's what I have so far. Moisturize while wet, keep moisturizing and combing every half-hour, try something heavier like a serum, butter or EVOO. Keep the suggestions coming! Thanks again.
I don't know about the combing every 30 mins., I personally wouldn't suggest that. I think moisturizing while wet will help as I said before. And give yourself a hot oil treatment too w/EVOO. I forgot to add that earlier.
