Help! Caruso Roller Users - Reversion Question

I just got my rollers and have only used them twice. I think this is a case of user error but I want to check with you all to see what I'm doing wrong.

I leave the rollers on the stand for the steamer for the specified time and roll my hair. I let them stay on longer than recommended. Two things happen, either the curl is still wet when I take it down or the curls are frizzy looking, like some reversion is happening.

Do these rollers work better on bone straight hair? and why would it take so long for them to dry and for the curl to set. I looked for a FAQ in my instuctions that might address these issues but could not find one.

Please let me know your techniques, do you use setting lotion, I was using them the day after a wash today just to curl my bangs.

Thank you!

See, at first I left them on for about 10 seconds -way to long, would hold too much water. Now I just leave on for like 5 seconds -works like a charm!

Some people use end papers to combat the frizz. Also, be sure not to use a comb, that can also cause frizz. Just use your fingers. No setting lotion needed. Maybe run a little frizz control serum through your hair.

My Carusos actually take away frizz for me. They smooth out my hair when I get frizziness.

Ends papers help. Also, I think the setter are different. I have two and the ProSetter one that is about $50 tends to take away my frizz. The other gives me frizz if my hair is not totally straight. I am not sure what is the difference between the two.

I shake excess moisture off of the roller before I put it in my hair, and I've found that this helps. Just one quick flick of the roller does the trick. HTH

Great Advice!

Thanks PrincessPie, HoneyDew and JLove, you all are great!!

I knew it's user error! :look: I never thought of using end papers, with the cat and the boy distracting me I prolly left the roller on the thing for 2 minutes! and the extra water is causing me a problem, I like the idea of the extra knocking off of the excess water :). I will also use my fingers to style. I can't wait to get home and try again ....

Honey Dew, this is the model I got from Sally's this week...Is this the ProSetter you are refering to?

Or is there another model available?

Thanks for asking this question. I had the same problem. some of my curls came out really nice and one was too wet..and another frizzy.

I'm thinking this may work best on freshly permed hair. do you ladies think this statement is true?

I do this, too. Well, I actually wipe off the water by patting both sides of the roller down on a papertowel before putting the roller in.

I have that one and another version. It is the Caruso C97958 Professional ION Steam Hairsetter:

But both of them are good, though.

Same here. I can use them when I have lots of new growth. When 1st got the setter I had trouble using it when I did not have a fresh relaxer, but now I can use it at anytime.

In addition to what everyone else said, I prep w/ Sabino's Moisture Block/end papers/jojoba oil. I sometimes add a spritz of my DE leave-in conditioner or use the Nexxus mousse...

do not let them sit for the time recommended or longer. i let my sit on the steamer for 5 seconds tops. anything more than that comes out like a wet, frizzy mess.

I wouldn't say they work better on bone straight hair because when I use them after a retouch, they fall rather easily, the curls are still pretty but I like to use the rollers when I am like 10 weeks post bcuz they hold my curls better:)

I see they have the ION model on sell at Folica for $39.99 free shipping....hmmmmmmm.....

Stick with the caruso's...when I first used them my hair came out a hot friggin mess...all fuzzy...I looked like a chia pet....once you determine how long to let them stay in your hair...you'll be a pro at using them in no time...it took me a good 2-3 times to get the hang of them:)

Actually I didn't know Caruso had a newer ION based model which is about $10.00 more than what I just paid. I just got them this week so I can do an exchange since I got them at Sally's.... So I'll still be doing Caruso, just their newer model. My hair likes ION stuff for some reason :-)

Thanks for the tips everyone {{{{{Group Hug}}}}}, I know they will work if I do them right, and the best thing about them is that I know they are not damaging! So they are worth working with to get the right look.

I'm glad they work post relaxer too! I could do a cute curly look to help blend the textures! Thanks for that idea!

So I'm excited :-) When I get my style right, I'll take a picture...

How long does it take for them to dry when you use the papers..of course I have about 1/20th the length of hair that you do! LOL so I can take your amount of time and divide it by 20...heheh:lol:

Girl, this one has a setting that you can turn on that makes this LOUD clicking noise. It may be worth trying it , but I can't stand the sound. :D There were som ladies talking about it in the reviews on Amazon.

If I let my hair air dry through the night will the Caruso rollers work in the morning or do I have to use them on blowdried hair?

Girl I bought these things twice and took them back both times but want to try again :D . They say three's a charm and I think I need to practice. Before I tried it once, it didn't work so I took them right on back

I had this model, and couldn't stand the sound. I didn't care how beneficial it was supposed to be for my hair, the noise was unbearable. :ohwell:

I don't like that sound either. I don't turn it on. I just use it w/o turning on the option with the sound. What were they thinking with that?!?!

I came home and did a quick test and sure enough I can leave the roller on the stand for about 6 seconds, take it off, roll my hair, walk around for about 15 minutes, vola curls!! I just ordered the newer Ion model, so I'm taking the other one back to Sally's, I kept my receipt. The Ion will help keep the frizzies down too. I can totally see how this would work well even when a retouch is needed because I could do a cute curlly style which always looks better when your roots are a little thick. Thanks Chicas!!!

Good Lawd, what does the sound do... screech, or does it scream? I can't imagine it being that bad (I may be eatting these words very soon)

Update!

I got the newer Ion Model and I used the Ion setting which makes a clicking sound but produces more steam. I steamed the roller with the clamp off this time and then curled my hair and Bingo, this is a winner!!

I also curled a straight fall with those jumbo roller and I go the most perfect waves, and bends for this layered long style ! What a winner.

I need to get some extra medium and large rollers. For some reason it seems I got a ton of jumbo rollers which is cool.

This is going on my definate hit list because I can have curls without damaging my hair or sitting under the torchure chamber hooded dryer unless I want too.!! These can be used on the hair a couple of days after washing (not dirty) to boost a style with curls without damage.

Winner! :yay:
