Thanks for recommending distilled water, where do you buy yours from?Neroli said:Distilled water in 2oz spray bottle small enough to carry in purse - spritz braids frequently, excellent moisture, no buildup.
There is a possibility that the exstensions could be removing some of the moisture, however always treat my kanekalon hair with vinegar to remove most of the alkaline before having it applied to my hair.sprungonhairboards said:I agree with the above. That's a good idea. I'm sure the extensions are helping suck the moisture out of your hair too.
Den why the heck do you have extensions with hair almost to your butt???![]()

I currently use glycerin in my homemade mix,,,i'll probably add it to some distilled water.curlilocs said:I read somewhere that glycerin was good for moisture retention in warm humid conditions. Maybe a spray mixture of water and glycerine might be beneficial to retaining moisture in the hair this summer season.

I love the extensions because i don't have to do much with my hair and i'm currently stretching my relaxer for a while and trying to grow it.LOL I wish i had buttlength hair.
California said:Hey Den what kind of vinegar do you use? How long do you soak it? Better yet how do you get most of the alkaline out (I mean the method of doing it with the vinegar?) This is new to me girl!!TIA
Neroli said:I'm not Den but I do something similar before braiding with synthetic hair. I mix 1 part apple cider vinegar and 2 part distilled water. I then put the synthetic hair in the ACV mixture and swizz(sp?) around long enough to completely saturate the hair (keep hair in the braid or tied up so won't get tangled) then I remove, squeeze dry and then let air dry before using -- usually do this the day before so completely dry when time to braid, if I'm not that organized, then my quickie method is to put the ACV mixture in a spray bottle and spray each piece before braiding into my hair (not as good as the total soaking, but better than nothing) BTW, I learned this from Robin the hair lady site www.growafrohairlong.com years ago . . .
Den, I'd like to know your method too . . . .
Hehehe Nahhh I rarely use heat I get frightened using even the mininal type of heat in my hair...there's a low risk of me getting heat damage especially from flat-ironing/blow drying, however i am concerned about what the humidity is doing to my hair, i'm going to follow the great advice you ladies have recommended to me.Natrlchallenge said:Den! Don't scare me like that again! I thought u were using a flat iron and got damage from it!![]()
Hi california, i follow a simlar method to Neroli, the diffrence is i use malt vingar and soak the hair for 12 minutes in a sink full of hot water/mal vinegar mixture. I dry the hair and saturate with braid spray, the hair is usually very soft, with moisture and sheen after this treatment, i also adopted the method from Robin Woods. to see practical demonstrations see album click folder "crown and glory" then click folder "braid extension".Neroli said:I'm not Den but I do something similar before braiding with synthetic hair. Thanks for the warning i remember how sticky it can be.. the very first time i tried it my skin itched terribly because it dripped onto my face. i've just mixed up some good ole glcerin and rosewater, i had these sitting in my cupboard for a while, my hair is feeling better already, i also shampooed with CON and used a diluted moistions silk/motions cpr on hair. Thanks for you help, oh i've just remembered i didn't moisturise yesterday, maybe i've haven't been moisturising my hair enough.Alli77 said:I was thinking the same exact thing! Be carefull not to put too much glycerine (really dilute it with H20) cause it can get really sticky! Maybe a concoction of glycerine with rose water and an essential oil could do the trick!![]()
nAH I've slacked off this method, i've never tried it with my hair in extensions B4, i wonder if it will work okay, I would probably have to end up washing my braids too regularly,i hope to keep these in for another 4 weeks.Alli77 said:BTW Den have you been sleeping with a plastic cap on at night? I remember YOU told me about this method and I retained so much moisture!
adrienne0914 said:i used curl activator for my braids. at first i was using the S-Curl, but i'm lazy. so i switched to the World of Curls because i didn't have to use it as often. for those that treat the hair before braiding, does the hair smell like vinegar, or is that solved by rinsing with really hot water? i've never tried this because it seems like alot of work. have you ever tried not treating the hair, but washing your hair after it has been braided?

classimami713 said:I was having problems with moisture, but since I started using diluted s-curl, and doing frequent conditioner washes, my hair is super soft! It is consistently soft. I can't even believe how soft and moisturized it is. I'm doing a low product routine, so for me it's pretty much cw, use s-curl, and use my carrot creme when 80% airdried.
I also deep condition weekly with heat.
Thank-you very much for the infoMeechUK said:In the UK distilled water is available at most chemists, Boots and Superdrug usually stock it.
