Since the weather has become hotter I noticed that I cannot keep moisture on my exstensions the heat is absorbing the much needed moisture, is anyone having the same/similar problems? Which regime or products do you recommend to combat this problem? thanks in advance.

Distilled water in 2oz spray bottle small enough to carry in purse - spritz braids frequently, excellent moisture, no buildup.

I agree with the above. That's a good idea. I'm sure the extensions are helping suck the moisture out of your hair too.

Den why the heck do you have extensions with hair almost to your butt??? :spank:

I read somewhere that glycerin was good for moisture retention in warm humid conditions. Maybe a spray mixture of water and glycerine might be beneficial to retaining moisture in the hair this summer season.

Thanks for recommending distilled water, where do you buy yours from?

There is a possibility that the exstensions could be removing some of the moisture, however always treat my kanekalon hair with vinegar to remove most of the alkaline before having it applied to my hair.

I love the extensions because i don't have to do much with my hair and i'm currently stretching my relaxer for a while and trying to grow it.LOL I wish i had buttlength hair.

You're welcome. Any walmart or grocery store in the U.S. for about .75 cents a gallon. You should be able to find at grocers in London at comparable cost . . .

I currently use glycerin in my homemade mix,,,i'll probably add it to some distilled water.

You've gotten some great advice. Let us know what works for you. I myself am having summer dryness issues. Whenever I'm out in the sun for a bit, my hair feels so dried out. This is my first summer natural so I'm still trying to figure out my summer routine too.

Hey Den what kind of vinegar do you use? How long do you soak it? Better yet how do you get most of the alkaline out (I mean the method of doing it with the vinegar?) This is new to me girl!! :) TIA

I'm not Den but I do something similar before braiding with synthetic hair. I mix 1 part apple cider vinegar and 2 part distilled water. I then put the synthetic hair in the ACV mixture and swizz(sp?) around long enough to completely saturate the hair (keep hair in the braid or tied up so won't get tangled) then I remove, squeeze dry and then let air dry before using -- usually do this the day before so completely dry when time to braid, if I'm not that organized, then my quickie method is to put the ACV mixture in a spray bottle and spray each piece before braiding into my hair (not as good as the total soaking, but better than nothing) BTW, I learned this from Robin the hair lady site www.growafrohairlong.com years ago . . .

Den, I'd like to know your method too . . . .

Den! Don't scare me like that again! I thought u were using a flat iron and got damage from it!
Hehehe Nahhh I rarely use heat I get frightened using even the mininal type of heat in my hair...there's a low risk of me getting heat damage especially from flat-ironing/blow drying, however i am concerned about what the humidity is doing to my hair, i'm going to follow the great advice you ladies have recommended to me.

Hi california, i follow a simlar method to Neroli, the diffrence is i use malt vingar and soak the hair for 12 minutes in a sink full of hot water/mal vinegar mixture. I dry the hair and saturate with braid spray, the hair is usually very soft, with moisture and sheen after this treatment, i also adopted the method from Robin Woods. to see practical demonstrations see album click folder "crown and glory" then click folder "braid extension".

I was thinking the same exact thing! Be carefull not to put too much glycerine (really dilute it with H20) cause it can get really sticky! Maybe a concoction of glycerine with rose water and an essential oil could do the trick!;)

BTW Den have you been sleeping with a plastic cap on at night? I remember YOU told me about this method and I retained so much moisture!

Thanks for the warning i remember how sticky it can be.. the very first time i tried it my skin itched terribly because it dripped onto my face. i've just mixed up some good ole glcerin and rosewater, i had these sitting in my cupboard for a while, my hair is feeling better already, i also shampooed with CON and used a diluted moistions silk/motions cpr on hair. Thanks for you help, oh i've just remembered i didn't moisturise yesterday, maybe i've haven't been moisturising my hair enough.

nAH I've slacked off this method, i've never tried it with my hair in extensions B4, i wonder if it will work okay, I would probably have to end up washing my braids too regularly,i hope to keep these in for another 4 weeks.

I have started to wash and deep condition more frequently to keep my hair from drying out. I do it every 5 days now instead of once a week.

i used curl activator for my braids. at first i was using the S-Curl, but i'm lazy. so i switched to the World of Curls because i didn't have to use it as often. for those that treat the hair before braiding, does the hair smell like vinegar, or is that solved by rinsing with really hot water? i've never tried this because it seems like alot of work. have you ever tried not treating the hair, but washing your hair after it has been braided?

It takes about 15 minutes or so the day beforebraiding and doesn't seem like alot of work . . .

I don't notice any vinegar smell, especially if I do the treatment the day before, smell gone by the time the synthetic hair dries. I don't rinse the hair after soaking in the ACV because of potential for tangle -- just squeeze and lie flat to dry . .

I wouldn't wash my hair immediately after braiding 'cause it causes the braids to loosen and get that "old" look really fast (I'd skip the vinegar if it meant having to wash after braiding!). If smell was a problem, which it hasn't been for me, then I think a good spritz of distilled water and the essential oil of choice would do immediately afterwards, like the distilled water and rosemary or ylang that I use to "freshen" my braids.

Den, I forgot to add that you can put a few drops of EO of your choice in the spray bottle for a light fragrance as you moisturize . . .

I don't notice any vinegar smell lingering at all, I usually spray my concotion of braid spray before it completely dries, so it has a beautiful fragance, the last time I used (Glycerin, de-ionized water, surge 14 moisture aide, rosewater). Thanks for suggesting EOs for a nice fragrance, i'm off to find my lavendar essence.

In the UK distilled water is available at most chemists, Boots and Superdrug usually stock it.

I was having problems with moisture, but since I started using diluted s-curl, and doing frequent conditioner washes, my hair is super soft! It is consistently soft. I can't even believe how soft and moisturized it is. I'm doing a low product routine, so for me it's pretty much cw, use s-curl, and use my carrot creme when 80% airdried.

I also deep condition weekly with heat.

How much do you dilute the s-curl?
