Hi lovely ladies!
Just wanted to pop in and give an update with my hair. My focus has focused much on my health and getting into shape, which means buying higher quality foods (minimal processed foods and eating out). So, my food budget has definitely increased, which meant my hair and PJ budget has to suffer lol. It's not so bad though, I've actually discovered a couple of things that I had sitting under my sink that work for me as well as some cheaper alternatives.
Sorry Juicers, I'm out of the challenge. Styling wise, juicing did not agree with me wearing my hair loose. I'll use it as a moisturizer when I slick my hair back into a low puff/pony, but my wash n' go/diffused styles it was a no no .
I am still regularly doing overnight treatments with either a coconut based oil (100% or Vatika, or other coconut based ayurvedic oil) or Amla oil (sesame oil based) at least once a week. I decided to introduce protein treatments using Ultra Sheen Duo Tex once a week for 10 mins as instructed. Recently I've been using Giovanni 50/50 shampoo when I'm in the mood for that level of cleansing and as a conditioner Suave Almond and Shea Butter conditioner (testing out cheaper alternatives). This conditioner isn't bad, I feel like it rinses clean, leaves my hair soft and helps out with detangling. I've used 2 bottles so far and will probably repurchase, but am interested in trying out Aussie Moist...but maybe I'll stick to this Suave for a while. As a leave in I'm using KCNT which I've had sitting under my sink, and recently found it works great with the two styling product combo I am now in love with!!!
Styling, I think I've finally found something that gives me EXACTLY the results I've been looking for. I wanted the definition and frizz control while keeping volume, movement, and maintaining SOFT, product free feeling hair. Currently I'm using Curl Junkie Curls In A Bottle with Isoplus Conditioning Styling Gel. Both of these products are very light, and dry soft. I apply about a quarter size amount of CJCIAB to each half of my hair, and then the Isoplus Gel over it for added hold and control. It's PERFECT. No crunch, no looking like I have product loaded on my hair, and a nice sheen.
I haven't had my hair professionally trimmed/cut since October or November and decided in April to give myself a trim and trim the some of the top layers back in my hair. I did an "ok" job considering I didn't know what I was doing, but I am going to keep with the self trimming in an attempt to grow out my hair "for real". I love my professional cuts, but I'd like to monitor better the amount of hair I'm taking off while trying to grow out my hair.
Outside of that, I appear to be getting some decent growth lately and looking forward to what the spring/summer hold. I think this can be attributed to my change in lifestyle surrounding my diet and activeness. I kickbox about 4 to 5 days a week, and I've added Juicing to my routine (which already included almost daily green smooties) in an effort to get in more of my daily fruit and veggies in that I NEVER consumed before, and more eating whole foods. I'm taking a daily vitamin, Biotin, and MSM mainly for my joints (knees started hurting and since taking a short break from excercise and MSM the pain is no longer there). So my nutrition has definitely improved over the past few months which is having a positive effect on my hair and skin. More motivation to keep it up lol.
So that's it, nothing spectacular to show now, but hopefully by the end of summer my hair will have reached a length I've never allowed it to since being natural.
Updating because I forgot to mention another product I'm loving and added a couple of pics...
One N' Only Argan Oil Treatment from Sally's. I'm loving this stuff as a finishing product and to scrunch out the crunch if I have some. It smells really good, very light, and adds shine.
Here are a few more pics to see the shape. This was styled with just KCNT and Isoplus Styling Gel. Used the Argan oil to fluff and finish.
