Heat Straightened Naturals... heat protectant problems?

Hi all, I guess I need confirmation of something I think I did wrong.

I am a pj (argh!) so I bought the Joico Smoothing Balm (I think that's the name) even though I had no issues with the myriad of other heat protectants I have. This is the first time I've had an issue.

I washed and conditioned my hair. Then I let it dry a bit before I put in a small to medium amount of the Joico Smoothing Balm in my hair by sections before I blow dried it.

It blow dried quickly, and perhaps a little rougher feeling than normal. Usually my hair gets pretty subdued, straight at first after blow drying. I looked in the mirror and my hair was HUGE... I mean it was fluffy, and bouncy and just really huge. I guess I should have taken a picture, because I hadn't seen my hair like this before. I loved it.

Anyway, then I went on to flat iron. I did take pictures of that because I've been taking pictures every month about the same time, but I couldn't get a "good" picture.

During the night a lot of it reverted. That's fairly unusual for my hair. Then when I went to work it reverted more. Bleh... it was kinda fuzzy in some places more so than in others.

Again, my hair usually doesn't revert easily when it has been flat ironed. On the whole, my hair was just different.

All of that to ask...

Did I use the heat protectant wrong? It says it is heat activated, but perhaps I should have put it on when my hair was still really wet, instead of just damp? Or should I have used it just to flat iron, because perhaps it "set" my hair at that fluffy blow-dried point?

This was a tough day dealing with that!

:bump:

well nobody touched this yet....

but my guess......although i havent used the product

is that you may not have done anything wrong, it may just be how that product behaves/feels

Well if this is how the product behave, and I suspect at this point it is, then I have SEVERAL other heat protectants I recommend instead.

coughpjcough

Sometimes it is true that you should stop while you are ahead.

What worked well that didn't revert until you washed it out and your curls came popping back?

The Mizani Thermasmooth products worked well. Almost too well. Straight to the point of limp. But I'd prefer that to fuzzy ... half fuzzy at that!

i can't get those results with mizani. could it be that i'm not using enoughh? what's the key to getting good results with mizani????help?? should i open a thread for answers? sorry i didn't mean to hijack, but just seeing that err'body thinks mizani is da bomb and i can't get it right, shooots! lol

What were the instructions for use of the product? If you used it as directed then it may not be for you, on the other hand if it says use on wet hair and you did on damp it may affect your end result...
