Heat Protectant needed when rollersetting?

Hi Ladies,

Would you be able to answer this question for me. During my last two rollersets no heat protection was used but I am starting to wonder is it necessary? Or is heat protectant more necessary when using direct heat?

As you can see I am a little confused.

Try Ted Gibson's Hair Sheets. I used them as a heat protectant before I flat iron, but I'm sure it would work just as well for a roller set. It gives a nice sheen too.

I don't think it's necessary. For me the less product I use with a roller set the better. I stick with diluted lottabody with a touch of castor oil.

I try to use a heat protectant whenever I use any hot tools, right now i've just started using Emergencia for frizz but it also products heat protection, it's soooooo good my hair is sleeker than with anything else i've used so far. It's in a green bottle.

but yeah get into the habit of using heat protectants, there are alot of products on the market that all multi-purpose for frizz/heat.

I think a heat protectant is necessary only when using direct heat like a flat iron or a hand held blow dryer.

I use CHI silk infusium when I rollerset. The outside layer of hair on the roller dries the fastest, so I use it so that my hair doesnt dry out while the underlayers are trying to dry.

After I roll my hair, I just do a light spray of Silk Elements Megasilk Olive Heat Protection Spray over my head. Just to protect what is exposed. Very light and leaves hair soft, I like it. I use my serum/oil protectors (chi or IC) whenever I use direct heat.

I think it's still necessary for a rollerset. That heat is indirect, but can still be drying/damaging. I use CHI Silk Infusion, Biosilk or a different serum on top of my leave-in moisturizer. A little goes a long way.

(Think of a turkey in an oven. It's not being fried or sauteed - direct heat -, it is in an oven - indirect heat - but it can still become dry or burned.)

I use a heat protectant everytime I use heat. The only time I don't use it is when I'm airdrying a rollerset.

I don't use heat protection when I rollerset. I've been rollersetting twice a week for a few months now and it hasn't damaged my hair in the least

Macherieamour has been rollersetting for years using Fantasia IC No Frizz Serum and she has some of the most beautiful hair ever.

Heat protection isn't necessary when rollersetting :)

I use heat protectant. I'll either add it to my spray mix (mostly water) as I set my hair, or I'll just spray heat protectant on my finished set. every little bit helps, IMO.

I still use a heat protectant.

I use either Chi Silk Infusion or Organix Coconut Serum mixed with my leave-in all over my hair.

Dryer still gets hot and I still want protection.

Very good point.
