Heat damage from blow-drying every 3 weeks?

Ladies I need your advice. I want to blow dry my hair once every 3 weeks for the next 6 months but was wondering if such long term use of heat can cause damage to my hair? I’m going to discontinue getting my hair washed, pressed, and curled every 2 months because I believe I’m beginning to lose my naps. I need to blow dry my hair in order to get it braided, but if this will cause damage, can you ladies recommend some other ways to get my semi-natural hair to dry so that it’s cornrow ready after it dries?

TIA,

If you haven't tried it, the following method might be one to consider: shampoo and condition; during the conditioning phase, detangle hair in 6-8 sections with a wide toothed comb and braid each section; rinse well; once out of the shower, blot and unbraid each section, gently towel dry and rebraid; leave in braids until it's time for your hair to be cornrowed. This is probably best done at night so you can allow the hair to finish drying overnight. HTH

Are you saying that your hair has to be relatively straight before you can get it braided, and that's why you're contemplating blow-drying it? If it has to be somewhat straight and you do not want to blow dry, try detangling it after your wash and condition, and pull into a smooth ponytail. Take the hair that is left out, and if you don't want to braid it b/c it will be crinkly, place a few ponytial holders or scrunchies down the length (does that make sense?) and let it dry.

I agree. You can pull hair back while wet in and put a roller on the end. Then cover with silk scarf. I do this and in the am it looks straight like I could have blown it dry. No need to use a blowdryer if you just want to braid it.

Thanks ladies for your responses. :)

I’m going to try the method balisi recommended since it reminds me of a braidout and those get my hair relatively straight. With this method I might be able to cut out using heat in my hair all together.
