Healthy Hair from the inside OUT!! What are you eating??

Here's what I feed my hair:

Doritos, kettle chips, McDonald's, salads, baby carrots, lean cuisine frozen meals, sometimes fruit, sometimes 14 cups of water daily and sometimes 6 cups. Oh yeah, I almost forgot candy! At least one a day.

Errrrm, yeah. My diet sucks. LOL. Working on it......:perplexed


Dang girl..I was getting ready to make mental notes..and I saw Doritos lol..and I went to mental block.
 
Just curious, what was the reason to cut out fatty nuts and avocado? I can see cutting carbs and dairy, but usually in the books I read they praise the good fat in nuts/avo. Not saying they are wrong, but I'm interested because I have never heard that before.

I admit I have not researched it, just taking her word....

I have oily skin and she says that some foods increase the production of oil from the sebaceous gland. Apparently avocados and nuts are two of those foods, along with the others.

I stopped drinking milk a long time ago, but I replaced it with nut milk so now I'm having a hard time.

Hemp Protein smoothies, Fruit Smoothies, Green smoothies, lots of organic fruits & veggies, no dairy, only eat meat 2-3x a week and only organic, grass fed beef, green tea, raw kombucha tea (the best tea), lots of spring water, ezekiel bread, manna bread, coconut milk, I cook w/ coconut or olive oil, beans, nuts, rice, use stevia to sweeten my teas & smoothies instead of sugar.

supplements- whole food vitamins, hair skin & nail vitamins, probiotics.

I'm dieting for my skin too, but I do eat a few nuts a day and an avocado twice a week. If I find that eating them is not helping, I may cut them out for a while.

Yeah, I've been fighting breakouts from the outside for a long time. I figure it won't hurt to try making some tweaks to my diet. I realized that I eat cheese, avocado, and some food make from nuts daily.

I truly believe that a vegetarian diet is best, but I'm still a meat-eater. Even when I ate mostly vegan over the summer, I ate a ton of nuts and nut milks and I'm wondering if that contributed to my breakouts as well.

I'll report back and let you guys know how it goes.
 
I've been putting a tsp of organic ACV in my water bottle. pH balance is not only for the hair, but for the body too.

I've also been drink these delicious protein shakes that a make myself. I blend in one banana, some blueberries or strawberries(or both), ice, soy milk, and powdered whey protein.

I also usually have a water bottle handy throughout the day.

I also eat LOTS of eggs, not intentionally for my hair, but because I love eggs!

I also cook with a lot of rice for dinner meals. I'll usually make broccoli,chicken, and cheese over white rice. Or I'll bake some fish and eat it over white rice. Or I'll make my own spin of fried-rice (without the frying)

every1's suggestions sound great but PLEASEEEEE be careful with the raw milk! Milk is pasteurized for a reason--ikno it's the new fad but it puts u at high risk for foodborne illness/food poisoning. Before doing the raw milk, i suggest trying soy milks, almond milk, oat milk, rice milk. hemp milk, coconut milk.



I think I love regular whole milk too much to give it up:lachen:
 
Kefir coconut milk,Acai berry's breakfast,steam veggies,baked fish/chicken,fruits & amazing green grass at dinner..Plenty water

multi vit,liq cal,borage oil,fish oil,vit c & mag...

*Yoga & Power walking 3-4xs a week

*NO PORK!

I'm sort of surprised at people cutting out dairy and saying they've seen an improvement in hair, skin, nails. I thought calcium was good for your nails? Unless you're replacing the dairy with dark greens, I guess? I think those have a high amount of calcium, right?
I'm confused. Lol.

I bake it very simply :yep:

Set oven at 375 degrees. I wrap each piece in aluminum foil and sprinkle with a little sea salt and ground pepper. I put a little oil on the foil to keep the salmon from sticking. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes depending on how big the pieces are. You don't want to cook it too long or it becomes dry.
 
Lots of fish...... Salmon, talapia, cat, tuna, shrimp, vegetables, atleast 60 oz water per day... Hardly any sugar, flour, salt, soda!
 
there are many changes i've made and will come back to comment more, but the one single thing i've done which i've noticed the greatest changes from is:

juicing fresh fruits and veggies (not together) regularly!

especially those mixes with the spinache, cucumbers and carrots.....my hair seems to love those, and it's great for my body, too!

the fruit ones i make with lots of tangerines and kiwi, (amongst other fruits) has kept me without the usual winter cold or flu since i started last year.

definitely keepers!
 
Everyday I make sure to eat 1 banana, 1 glass of OJ, a small plate of spinach drizzled with EVOO and a couple of cloves of garlic and a cup of white tea. These are daily staples that I consume around my regular meals.

I am eating more wild caught broiled sockeye salmon. I use Ms. Dash, which is salt free, to season it as well as some garlic and a teaspoon of evoo. I eat a low sodium, low fat pork bacon with my oat bran. I add chia seeds, wheat germ and soy lecithin to my oat bran to boost the fiber content.

On weekend, anything goes. I eat french toast, burgers, wings, pizza and whatever my heart desires. I am still able to maintain a good weight and have no cholesterol or blood pressure issues.
 
Your diet sounds yummy!! But oh boy!! :-( I would hate to lose anymore weight than what I am already doing!!! How is the Omega 369 helpful?? And MSM I saw that in a cream in the herb store i went into!

Yea, losing weight is not fun. Maybe if I had a body like Beyonce, then I can afford to lose a little...but I'm holding on for dear life for the little shape I got :lachen:

Anyhoo, the MSM has done absolute wonders for my skin!!!!! This is what I take:

Doctor's Best MSM Powder -- 250 g

I've taken another kind before...I wanna say it was made by Vitamin Shoppe...that stuff tore my skin up. It was just too much for me.

So I changed to Doctor's Best MSM. I put one heaping tablespoon in a 32 ounce water bottle and drink it throughout the day. When I first starting taking it, the detoxing was crazy. It made me so fatigued and tired that I'd be falling asleep while driving. I'd have to pull over and chill for while...but I was probably taking too much. My body was detoxing too fast for me. Also, it sent me to the bathroom so quick! It really cleans you out! And the dreams were crazy. One night, I dreamt that I had longhairdontcare's beautiful mane on my head :lachen:No joke. All of these symptoms occurred within a week of starting MSM, no matter how much water I drank. It lasted for about a month. The only reason why I kept taking it was because it cleared my skin up and made it look as smooth as a baby's bottom. It made me look like I was wearing makeup.

But after all the bad stuff came out, it was smooth sailing...I've been taking it for about 6 months and it's been great. My nails have grown in harder and stronger. MSM has made my texture wavy instead of curly. Like my hair used to grow in tiny coils. Now it grows in like someone stretched out the coil...I hope that makes sense. MSM has softened and "lengthened" my texture. Is that a word?? My stretches used to be a piece of cake because I didn't have breakage at the demarcation line. It was a beautiful thang! Until...I started taking the Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils about 3 weeks ago.

I was initially taking 1000 Omega 3 and 1000 Omega 6. But then I started I taking 3000mg of fish oil with 1000mg of Evening Primrose oil with every meal. Can I just say how pissed I am that my hair is growing so fast? Reason is, I just got a touch up 7 weeks ago, and I will probably need to get one AGAIN. Already. I guess I'm frustrated cuz not even a wash and set is helping me at this point and I don't like getting touch ups so close together, I usually wait 3-4 months. The length of my hair is silky straight and my roots look like I have an afro :wallbash: Puffy roots with straight ends....not cute. I got my hair done for an event, and it already looks a mess.

MSM was making my hair grow at a good fast pace, but the oils took me by surprise. My scalp has been extremely sore and almost painful to the touch :nono: I know it's the oils because this happened after I started the 3:1 ratio with Omega 3 and Omega 6. I laid off the oils for a week, and the pain subsided. I may have to decrease my intake until I am in kinky twists or something because I don't want to get touch ups so often. Two goods things about the oils: my skin stays nice and moisturized and supple :lick: and my shedding is non-existent :yep: I like that my hair is growing fast, but I need to be in kinky twists and I wish my scalp wouldn't get so sore.

Sorry for rambling, but I hope I answered your questions.
 
I stick to an anti-inflammatory diet which means that I eat lots of fruits and veggies, drink green tea, rarely eat red meat or chicken, when I eat meat it is usually some sort of seafood. I stay away from most nuts because of my acneic skin, I also eat some form of oats or grains each day and l eat legumes because I like them and for the protein. However I do not deprive myself of a serving of chips or popcorn once in awhile, or trail mix. This is how I keep from binging on sugary foods or fast foods.

For example, today:
Breakfast: nature valley oats and honey bar with a braeburn apple and peach green tea
Lunch: Rice and Lentils
Snack: Raspberries
Dinner: Stuffed Pepper (stuffed with brown rice and angus beef) with a side of broccoli

I find it easy to maintain this eating lifestyle because I am not depriving myself of anything I like. I also exercise 5 days a week, so I can afford to not feel guilty about eating a cupcake or drinking an alcoholic beverage occasionally
 
I wish these diets on here were the norm for Americans!

Girl they're not even the norm on this website .. you notice there's only like 50 posts in this thread when hundreds, if not thousands of users look at the hair forum everyday. Of course no one's gonna come up in here recounting the Mickey D's and Coke they just had :lol:. Funny thing is there's a ton of people who eat terribly who have thick and fast growing hair..

Guess I should answer the thread question since I'm runnin my mouth.. I eat well about 70% of the time, whole grains, greens, good carbs, high fiber, lean meats etc. I still love pizza, bacon, wings, ice cream, etc. at times. During PMS my healthy eating percentage tends to go down and chocolate consumption goes way up :lol:

Actually I started to type a response like this just before you posted and chickened out.

For years I was on strict diets/lifestyle changes/health kicks whatever you wanted to call it, eating what I "should" eat because of something I read or heard about. I was thin and so was my hair.

Now I eat whatever I want. Today I had diet coke for breakfast, 2 slices of pizza for lunch, popcorn, poptarts, and chocolate covered pretzels and 3 more diet cokes throughout the day, and a tofu and veggie stirfry for dinner :lol:

I just had a baby - gained 60 lbs during my pregnancy and was back in my size 2s after 4 months eating like this

I actually did have an eating disorder and I know my experience is not typical. I find that I really can't focus on what i'm supposed to eat because I obsess about it too much
Health is important to me. Weight is not. I eat healthy when I can (hence my dinner tonight) and I take vitamins, but what's most important to me is being satisfied and keeping my belly full.

I actually BCed (to 1 inch) the same time I decided to stop worrying about what I ate as a sort of therapeutic/symbolic thing. Here's my hair less than 2 years later
