He says we don\'t have the RIGHT to expect growth??

http://www.edgehillsalon.com/edgehillnews/newsletter.html

This edgehill salon wrote an article with some pretty good tips but this comment burned me up

Many women yearn for hair growth that they have no right to expect will ever come Some women will never have long hair. If you didn't have long hair as a child you shouldn't expect it as an adult. Even if you have had long hair, all kinds of things affect your hair and may make a long ago hair length unattainable.

I'm going to email them with this website and links to some of you ladies hair albums.

Re: He says we don\'t have the RIGHT to expect growth??

He was wrong about the hair growing but he was right about the haircutting.

I have had many haircuts in my life and I can only remember one that I raved about. This woman layed my cut out. No matter which way my hair moved it would go rigth back into place. every hair was perfectly cut and in place. There was no longer or shorter hairs and no bits and pieces that were out of place. This woman did an awesome job. It did take her like an hour to do it but I only remember paying like 10 extra bucks with my relaxer service to have it done.

Re: He says we don\'t have the RIGHT to expect growth??

Well, his credibility is SHOT, because I didn't have long hair as a child. I wonder if he was trying to talk about black women indirectly.

I think so Supergirl. The title of the article was:Why Don't Women of Color "Get" the Haircut?

I was very offended by his statements. I think he owes us an apology. We are not an exception to the rule either, we are proof!!

Re: He says we don\'t have the RIGHT to expect growth??

He focuses too much on the haircutting/artistry issue. What if you don't want your hair cut into a style? Many of us don't want that. Send him the link girl and make his face crack and drop to the floor. Maybe he'll learn something about hair care period.

Re: He says we don\'t have the RIGHT to expect growth??

Oh and another thing. It's pretty obvious that this stylist makes all of his/her money off of weaves and extensions (check out the site, it's all she/he talks about). This person may be really great at weaving, cutting and styling but may know squat about true hair care. What's so wrong with wearing your own hair and having it be healthy at that?

Let me sit mah *** down!

He has made such a lame comment. A persons hair will grow unless they have some type of scalp damage. What in the world is he talking about?

Re: He says we don\'t have the RIGHT to expect growth??

I think he would have been better served to say that you can't keep damaging your hair and then think you have the right to have long hair. Gaining length is a function of how you treat your own hair, and not just genetics alone. Maybe as children, some people didn't have long hair because the things that were being done to their hair cancelled out any length they might achieved, and when they became adults they continued to do the same things.

I also agree about him going overboard with the haircutting thing. I am not going to a hairshow and I don't want to look like it when I leave a salon, so I really don't need the high right/low left with the swoosh in the middle.

Re: He says we don\'t have the RIGHT to expect growth??

I thought Dale was a FEMALE! Anyhoo, I can see her point but I think she sounded more like an advertisement. She also makes a good point in that many factors do affect hair. She didn't say that you wouldn't have long hair if you didn't have it as a child, just that you shouldn't expect to have it if you didn't have it as a child. Don't know why she doesn't seem to think folks could change *shrugs*...oh well. Thanks for the reading material.

Sounds like a scare tactic and sour grapes to me... And he assumes everyone wants/needs a fancy, cutting edge, precision haircut.

Re: He says we don\'t have the RIGHT to expect growth??

I sent him an e-mail I was so mad.
I just read "THe Edgehill Report" on Why Women of Color Don't Get a Hair Cut. Although some of the information in your newsletter was informative, I found that you made one very misleading statement.
You had stated that:
Many women yearn for hair growth that they have no right to expect will ever come
Some women will never have long hair. If you didn't have long hair as a child you shouldn't expect it as an adult. Even if you have had long hair, all kinds of things affect your hair and may make a long ago hair length unattainable. More importantly if your hair is damaged or has split ends you must cut it if you really want it to grow because damaged hair actually damages fresh growth. The bottom line is that not cutting your hair and preserving damaged hair means that you are not helping your long-term goal of hair growth. Moreover, along the way you are not looking your best.

It is a scientific FACT that most people can grow hair an average of at least 12-16 inches long, no matter what race one is. In fact, very few women are unable to grow their hair long due to genetics. Split ends do not necessarily indicate severe damage of the hair shaft. Split ends, as you know, can occur at any point on the hair shaft. In my experience, having split ends did not inhibit my hair growth. It just made my hair look raggedy. Just because you have damaged hair does NOT mean you will have damaged fresh growth. If the new growth has not been exposed to chemicals, then there is no possible way it could be damaged. Cutting hair because it is damaged is reasonable. Cutting hair to prevent damage is a bit far-fetched.

If you do not believe this information, please visit the following websites:
www.ubhpublications.com. Cathy Howse used to have very short hair, mostly due to incorrect care techniques and chemical damage. She had short hair all of her life. Now it is 18 inches long.
www.hairobicsallnatural.com. Stephanie Southers was bald from chemical treatments 8 times. The pictures you see here are her REAL HAIR.
www.longhaircareforum.com. The featured women all have REAL hair. Some of them had never had long hair before in their lives.

I am another example. I used to have ear-length hair. I had it all my life until I decided to take care of it. Now my hair is a little past my shoulders.

In the future, I would invite you to do your research on hair growth before making incorrect statements about hair growth.

Thank you.

Re: He says we don\'t have the RIGHT to expect growth??

I do think she is afraid of the dominican stylists. There are some women who would give up their stylish, very attractive shorter cuts in a minute if they knew they could achieve below shoulder length, even hair.
