He Forgives You, So Forgive Yourself

In this world, many of us "measure" sin and "withhold" forgiveness based on the "magnitude" of the sin. A white lie ranks low. An affair ranks high. Road rage is forgiveable. Murder is unforgiveable.

In God's eyes, sin is sin. Period. The cursing driver is no better than the cheating husband. Additionally, in His eyes, those who turn to Him are forgiven. Whether you stole a dime or betrayed your mate, He will forgive you.

So forgive yourself. Don't nail yourself to the cross just because others do.

Psalm 51
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

1 Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me.
4 Against You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil in Your sight—
That You may be found just when You speak,[a]
And blameless when You judge.

5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.

7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
9 Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners shall be converted to You.

14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
The God of my salvation,
And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—

These, O God, You will not despise.

18 Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion;
Build the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,
With burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.

Loolalooh,
Thanks for posting this. It took me years to accept God's forgiveness and not continue to punish myself. It took some falling down and humbling of myself to not play the "Which sin is the biggest?" game and learn to walk in love with others. This is a great reminder for me as I continue to grow on my Christian journey!

Amen! This is a good word...thanks for sharing.

I will never forget the day when I was feeling so down. I opened up my bible it landed on Psalm 32:5. I knew it was God telling me you are forgiven, stop condemning yourself.

Psalm 32:5
I acknowledged my sin to You,
And my iniquity I have not hidden.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,”
And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

So timely. Thank you.

I have been struggling with so much lately and at the end of the day it all boils down to unrepentant sin and asking forgiveness and believing I am forgiven. And believing that because I've been forgiven trusting in the Father and his love for me in both the good and the bad as he continues to build me more into the image of Christ. And not resisting that trust and forgiveness.

Loolalooh even in your darkness your showing Gods light..your leaning in and on the Lord so deeply its infectious..Im still working on this so much right now.I want to forgive myself but Im scared Im going to fail again..I know that by having and giving forgiveness it allows you to move fluidly in life..

There's things I have done where though I know God forgave me, I cannot seem to forgive myself. What do I do about that?

Ask God for forgiveness. Repent from your whole heart. In the Bible Jesus told the adulteress, "Go and sin no more!" Now here comes the hard part. ACCEPT His forgiveness. It is hard for us to accept forgivness because we weigh our sins on human-scales. In our minds for example, gossiping is a smaller sin than killing. But like Loolalooh said, "we who are saved ARE forgiven!" The lack of forgiveness for yourself is from the enemy trying to condemn you and cause you to feel guilt. God is GRACIOUS and MERCIFUL NOT because of your deeds but by the blood of Jesus that has washed you and made you as white and snow, like David said.

Rebuke that devil and tell him what the Lord feels about you, His precious daughter. You are the BRIDE of Christ. Do you think Jesus wants you to feel tarnished? He went on the cross for ALL of your sins. Past, present and future. That includes ALL lovie! Not some. Not last week's only. God knew who you would be as he knit you in your mommy's womb. You and your actions are of NO surprise to him! Take heart. Read the Word. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. And don't forget we are e-here for you too!!! (((HUGS)))

Sorry to blab but I have had to learn how to forgive myself. I speak all of these words from the heart, with love, and personal experience.

Thank you for this thread. I think that not being able to forgive myself for my own sins has been hindering me from having the wonderful relationship with God that I used to have.

I needed a reminder that God is not holding things over my head as man would

I just put Psalm 51:17 on a note card today along with
Psalm 86:4-5 New Living Translation (NLT)

4 Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
5 O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.

It was like confirmation.:grin: Thank you.

I'm having a hard time forgiving myself and believing that certain things I did and repented for are washed away with His precious Blood. Thank you for posting this.
