What is everyone using to lay your edges down. Tried Ecostyler gel, it doesn't work for me. I want that smooth look and can't get it any suggestions? Thankyou in advance.:ohwell:

I have been using syntonics edge define:yep:Its made by the same guy who makes keracare it just has more botanicals

keracare has their version called keracare edge tamer

Yes... I also 2nd the ors edges. It lays your edges down flat. But it's not a stiff hold like Eco styler. You just use a comb to comb it out and voila it's gone.

i used to use ORS, but the key to ORS Edge control is to use a LITTLE BIT. you can not glop that stuff on like gel. and then you have to tie it down for at least twenty mins and it works best on clean hair.

i am about 11 months post relaxer so my edges ain't having ORS no more. LOL

i use ampro brown protein old school gel on dry hair. but really works best for me is a technique i learned from Chicoro. Lean over your sink and cup water onto your edges, then apply gel, then tie down until it dries....like 20-30 mins. this works like a charm for me at 11 months post.

depending on how tight your curl pattern is, your hair may not lay down unless it is chemically or heat straightened. i try to accept what my hair will and won't do. at 11 months post, i can't get straight edges, but i can get them smooth.

For me no matter what I use, I need a scarf to hold it down for a bit. I've used plain shea butter with a scarf and it worked beautifully. I think I used that in my sig post.

Are you relaxed? I would try the ORS Edge Control, Kera Care Edge Tamer, Design Essential Sleek Edge Control or Aveda Control Paste. The last two are pricier.

I use softee hair dressings and a scarf. I hate gels with a passion and I strayed away from sticky pomades.

I even dilute the hair dressings with doogro growth oil to prevent stickiness.

Is your hair course, medium, or fine? & are you natural or relaxed?

These are key questions to answer OP. otherwise the responses here, tho well-intentioned mean little

We're all different hair textures (as in silky, wiry etc), some of us are fine some are coarse, the. When you add relaxed or natural into the mix it changes everything again.

Bottom line: if you are coarse-haired natural (this has it's benefits btw), SL or below, you will never find a product currently invented to lay your hair down. Just moisturized and tie it down good for 20-30m before you leave out and you'll be fine. Longer hair of this type may fair better but that's cuz it's likely less puffy at the sides. It would still need scarf intervention tho, not just product.

My guess is that since you've been searching and haven't found something your hair is probably not meant to lay down...

This is exactly true. I'm currently 10 months post in my transition and my edges are hella fuzzy. I have some breakage in the front so it's even worse trying to get these short hairs to lay flat. I use eco gel plus ors edge controller, slick my hair back with those brushes (not sure what they're called, men use them to brush their hair, they have a wooden handle) and then i spray a tad bit of hairspray on to hold. I also have to tie down my hair with a scarf for about 20 mins, then my edges look descent but still there's no miracles. I suppose If I used the brown ampro gel I'd have better results but that stuff is horrible for my hair plus it leaves too much residue.

i like ecostyler for my edges, but i also use just conditioner & water for curly styles and shea butter or beeswax for straight styles...the trick for keeping the edges sleek (esp w/ natural/curly styles) is using a satin/silk scarf to set it for atleast 15 mins...i used ecostyler to smooth down my friends 4b edges with a toothbrush and a scarf and it worked really well...ors edge control and curls passionfruit paste are really good for extra hold and shine...i havent purchased it in a couple of years, but i really liked oyin burnt sugar pomade as well.

I asked that question a lil while ago I know use passion fruit control paste, one of the girls recommended it to me, smells lovely too smells like a bakery :)

I second Curls Control Paste. I've used ORS Edge Control-which is nice, but the CCP beats it hands down IMO. I've even used this for a twistout with FABULOUS results-not one stray hair to be seen and no frizz!

I was using ORS Edge control, but Tracie from KISS says that it causes hair breakage. Before that I was using Aloe Vera Gel. I may have to try some of the above reccomendations.

Nothing really keeps my edges lying down for an extended period of time. Most products will work on me for a hour or two but eventually my roots frizz back up. They seem to grow out really quickly after I relax.

The best method I've found is slightly wetting my edges and using ORS edge control, then putting on a scarf. Then once it sets, I remove it. This does seem to work good, but any method for me without a scarf does not work.

Did it work for you? Did it actually cause breakage on your hair? Or did you stop using it because she said it causes breakage?

I don't know if you're natural or relaxed but I use JBCO, or reg co or Oyins burnt sugar or Elasta QP mango butter and a scarf. My edges are thin enough that I don't want to dry them out by using gel or anything harsh. I used these for relaxed and natural, but when I was natural, I also just accepted the fact that my edges would not always lay down and that made it much easier than fighting with em.

It worked, but I stopped using it because I noticed some breakage and because she said it  The breakage around my edges could also be because I'm pulling my hair back more. I'm going to see how my hair reacts not using it and go from there.
