Yesterday, I went to Sally's to find a good detangling spray for using after I shampoo my hair. So I'm looking in the Black hair care products and saw NOTHING. I then seeked out one of the black sales associates. She proceeds to tell me that there are No Detangling sprays for us and then proceeds to lead me to white care product section and picks up 3 different brands. I guess what shocked me is that I know for a fact that our hands tends to tangle more than our white counterparts. She then remembered that motions and dark 'n' lovely makes detangling products for black children. I ended up buying the detangling products for kids as made by Motions. (I tried it this morning after shampooing, it reduced my shedding tremondously)
I guess that I am just still puzzed that there are not any detangling sprays targeted for our hair type. Correct me if I am wrong, but I haven't ran into any yet.

The only one I know of specifically for black hair is Bev. Johnson detangling spray conditioner. I am sure there might be others!

Maybe it's just Sallys. I have a hard time finding new stuff in there because it's so limited at the one I shop in. Most of the things they have are the popular items like motions. Boy I sure do miss my old neighborhood in the bronx!

Hey Levette,

I think the following are targeted for Type 3/4 hair.

Elasta QP's H-Two Leave In conditioner is intended to moisturize and detangle. I know it's sold at Sally's.

And then there's Motions Nourish Leave-In conditioner, which is also intended to detangle:

And there's also Profectiv DamageFree Anti-Tangle 2-Phase Leave-in conditioner:

Optimum also makes a leave-in that supposed to detangle:

I've found all of these products at the Sally's I go to, except maybe for Optimum's (but then I never look b/c I've not had good luck with that line). The only one I've tried of all that are listed here, though, is Elasta QP - in terms of detanglers marketed for Type 3/4 hair that isn't placed in the kids' aisle.

Hopefully others will also come forward with suggestions. I'm sorry your experience at the BSS was so frustrating.

@ Nyambura- Thanks for posting the pics of the detangling products. I will be sure to look for it next time while shopping.

infusium is marketed toward people with curly/kinky hair. so thats one you can use.
Theres also fermodyl leaveins are targeted toward black hair there's even one called "texturized" for relaxed hair. and they also have the dual phase leaveins.
i use all of these and they detangle extremely well bc i get MONSTER TANGLES

if i dont use a detangling conditioner and then i STILL need a leave in and i have to saturate my hair. with my hair, one strand of shedded hair catches all of the hair around it. i fingercomb thinking that im going to lose tons of hair then find one hair that was the problem. ok i digress....
hth though

I know that there are plenty of detangling sprays for black hair. The one I use is Hair Revitalizer Plus 14. The Sallys wherr I live and all the hair product stores are geared toward women of color b/c those are their clients. That could be another reason you were having problems finding products.

I don't use a detangling spray specifically, but I do detangle my fine 4b relaxed hair MOST easily after conditioner washes involving
1. Rusk Sensories Calm Guarana & Ginger 60 Second Hair Revive conditioner ($12 @ salon, smells heavenly)
or
2. Clairol Renewal 5X conditioner for colored/permed hair ($3 @ CVS, smells chemically).
Motions oil moisturizer hair lotion is an awesome detangling leave-in moisturizer.

Hope you find a favorite detangling product soon. Have fun exploring your options!
