Have you ever had a relaxer that didn't burn?

I usually burn and this is one of the main reasons I am considering going natural. Isn't it bad for your scalp after a while?

Yes. Mild usually doesn't...in any relaxer I've used. And if you go in when it is dirty and itchy and you haven't touched your scalp at all, it usually does not burn. When I feel the tingle at the hairline I start screaming...IT BURNS, but I'm acting a little. But I just want that stuff out of my head at that point.

I totally agree with this statement made by kiesha8185 -

The trick is not allowing the relaxer to touch the scalp. The relaxer touches my scalp only when the stylist is working it in for the last 10 minutes.

Relaxers never burn when I do my own because I never put it on my scalp...If any does get on my scalp, it is when I am doing the last bit of smoothing before rinsing. Along with generous basing and no scratching or any type of disturbing the scalp (removing braids, etc.)
If I have it done at the salon and it burns, they don't get a chance to do it again. Which is one of the reasons I want to perfect doing my own.

Silk Elements Regular Lye. I just base really well and try not to manipulate my hair/scalp a week prior to the relaxer application.
