In the other thread Nikos had mention that they were but some members replied that they were still able to create tags.
Have the tags been officially disabled?

Tags are automatically created based on certain words in the subject matter.
Consequently, you (as the user) can create tags that have already been 'automatically created' by the system.
However, you can not make 'original' tags -- this feature has been disabled.
For example, in this thread, the tags 'disabled' 'officially' and 'tags', have been generated based on the subject of this post. Therefore, in another thread, you will be able to tag by typing the word 'disabled'.
