ok so I have like 7-9 inches of natural hair (4a/b) and lately I have been shedding A LOT more than usual ( those little suckers create some monster knots in my hair, too :wallbash:). I moisturise everyday, co-wash, avc rinse all that good stuff, and i am still shedding. I have never had hair past barely shoulder length in all my life  and I was wondering if this is the end for me:drowning:. Please please say it aint so, or if it is say that also.

I kinda sad....

I am at the SAME place, wondering the same thing. I am past shoulder length, but the front and middle of my hair is all shorter and does not want to catch up. I am shedding more than ever and it is harder to hold on to the hair. Plus I get more tangles. My goal is brastrap and I hope I can get there.

dont be sad:kiss:
how long would it be stretched out? this would give a better idea of the true length you are at. Im sure you have at least a few more inches to go til you reach TL

Cheer up girl, maybe it's just seasonal shedding and time for you to do a treatment, DC, braid it up and tuck those ends away for awhile. This would equal less manipulation and hopefully less shedding overall. Plus shedding is normal so don't get so worried.

Girl, I had the same problem.

I went natural back in 2002 and was NEVER seeing results. Thing is... it's hard to tell when your natural hair is growing: your hair probably is growing.

I've been wearing *braids* since '02 and YOU CAN TELL, my natural hair, which was a little past my neck is a little past my shoulders unstretched, and past brastrap stretched. Try briads out for a while... and if not; rest easy, you probably just can't see the difference.

I remember going through this phase after I went natural. It is growing, maybe something is missing in your regimen. BTW how do you usually wear your hair on a daily basis? and do you take any vitamins?

peace love, isn't it so frustrating?

loonatick, thanks for the love, my hair is 7-9 inches stretched

Beautifulwide eyes, just did an aphogee treatment and it helped some, been deep conditioning every week for the last two months, thanks for the
encouragement
Eiano, I just got fed up and put my hair in twists, hopefully that helps

seriously, if my terminal length is 9 inches I am too through!!! (LOL)

I read somewhere on this board that everyone, no matter what their race, age, sex, etc., is capable of growing 24 inches of hair, minimum. Just be patient.

I am on a twist challenge for this month and I take biotin( 1,000mcg), one a day womens, and flaxseed oil. Taking too many pills makes me wanna gag and I would use MTG but it still scares me, esp the smell!

yes yes, I do need to add some patience to my regimen, thanks Caltron

Hey love, do you really take all those pills? Have you seen any results from the biotin and the flaxseed? Have you tried MSM?

I really don't think you've reaached your terminal length at all. I think I read somewhere that there are different phases of hair growth. I'll look it up and get back to you

yeah I take those daily: i don't think the biotin is doing much, maybe I already had enough in my diet to begin with, the body flushes out what it doesn't need anyway. I take the flaxseed cause I want the benefits of EFAs but I'm too broke to buy fish all the time, and the muiltivitamin is to supplement whatever else I'm missin in my diet. I don't take MSM cause I don't wanna take more than 3 pills at a time (silly I know) , I don't wanna pay, and I don't want pimples, lol. I already spend enough on hair stuff.

I highly doubt you've reached terminal length. Your hair could be in a resting phase - mine sure is! A lot of people stall at major growth points (BSL, Shoulder length, waist length) its almost like your hair is testing you to see if you really are committed to doing this. here are my recommendations - keep a hair journal (yes, a journal) you can do it online at some sites - maybe here?) record what you are doing to your hair. maybe you need to change things up. maybe change your moisturizer. do you have split ends? keep those ends super moisturized. maybe you should do a little s&d mission with GOOD scissors! watch how you are treating your hair. gentle comb outs, easy on the brushing. etc. keep your ends protected as much as possible. keep being good to your hair and it'll be good to you. you're most likely just in a resting/stall phase. i've been in one for about 8 months. and its maddening. of course, i had a professional "trim" (read: about 3-5 inches) which was super frustrating. so HANG IN THERE!!! maybe you just need to switch things up. or maybe you're doing everything fine and its just a stall. keep treating your hair right!!!

I doubt you've reached terminal length already, I agree your hair may be resting for a while, thickening up, but it's very common any hair type to pause at certain milestones, if you want to see proof I have some hair album links in my journal. I personally have stalled @ SHLDR and BSL so I feel your pain.
You just have to do micro trims, do protective styles, braids, buns, phony-tails etc...and really moisturize and deep condition a lot so you can pass the stage. Also if you watch you hair too much it will seem like it's not growing, so just have patience, treat your hair especially good, and put it up and sort of forget about it. hth

Don't worry, you are not the only one who feels that way. Right now I feel as if my hair is sitting at BSL and wont go past that.
