Has Anyone Used a Child Relaxer As an Adult?

Hi ladies, this is my first post. Anyways, a lady at work the other day told me she uses a child relaxer on her hair. Her hair is really long and pretty, and at first I didn't believe her, but I'm starting to wonder... Has anyone else tried it or know someone else who has?

my best friend does it all the time. She has beautiful hair. She's a 3c. Honestly I don't think she needs a relaxer. I'd love my hair to look like her's.

I still do, and I'll be 20 next month. I use Beautiful Beginnings Coarse/Thick Formula for children. It's milder, doesn't burn, and straightens my hair just as well as an "adult" relaxer. I used to get chemical burns every single time I relaxed when I used Dark and Lovely and all those other relaxers. Once I switched back to the kiddie perms, my scalp no longer burned and my hair was much thicker after the relaxer process was over. You know how most relaxers suck the life out of your hair until the next wash? Childrens' relaxers minimized that for me. ;)

Welcome to LHCF, btw! ^_~

I used to use Dark & Lovely's child relaxer (Beautiful Beginnings) too a few years ago. I remember it working well. Don't know why I switched to Dark & Lovely regular really...

To be truthful there really is no such thing as a "kiddie" relaxer. Their ingredients are the same. So basically, yes you can use one successfully.

ive used PCJ, Just for Me, and African Pride for children...but ive also heard that the children relaxers are about the same if you were using the regular relaxers..but ive always if i do use a regular relaxer i try to get the mild...i also use it on my sisters hair the children relaxers...but have had great results from them....

PCJ original. One of my friends used to talk about me, I told her that perm doesnt know how ole I am...

I went to a cosmetics meeting with the makers of Soft and Beautiful, they also make child relaxers, i forgot which one they make. Anyways, the representatives told us that the adult relaxers and the child relaxers are the same product, only packaged differently as a marketing/selling technique. Though, i hear many proclaim that child relaxers are more mild. I still don't know what to make of it??

I think a "child" relaxer is probably comparable to a mild "adult" relaxer. Most likely when people start using relaxers marketed towards adults, they pick regular or super formulations. In comparison, a child relaxer would be less harsh, and as an added bonus it's cheaper.

Yes, I use to use Just for me it grew my hair very long. That was before I was into hair care. My ends turned frizzy from what I believe is the no-lye. So I stopped using it and went natural.

I've gone full circle and I am using Mo'Body Vitale Lye perm.

This is true.

I have a friend that has naturally curly hair like Tracey Ellis Ross on Girlfriends but BIGGER hair...she used Just for Me relaxer because she wanted her curls to drop more and it broke her hair off horribly.

I used to use PCJ for years. Not sure why I stopped  If I ever stop using Phyto I will go back to that one. I remember I had no problems.

Actually, I learned in cosmetology school that child relaxers were stronger than adult relaxer because they are intended for virgin hair, hair that has never been chemically treated at all and normally (from my experience) the first application of an adult relaxer to virgin hair will not process thoroughly whereas the first application of a child realxer to virgin hair will process thoroughly. This can pose a problem for those self relaxers who use child relaxers because overlapping occurs, but the same can happen when retouching a child's hair so who knows, just thought I'd share this info w/ everyone

i used both the dark and lovely kiddie relaxer and soft and beautiful for kids too. There's really no difference. And also, its no-lye......

Why do relaxers "suck the light out of hair"? And what is it about washing that slowly thickens up the hair?
