Has Anyone Tried Using Oils for Leave-In...

Someone recommended that I try shampooing my hair then putting lots of oil in it and braiding it and letting it dry overnight then taking out the braids in the morning. Has anyone tried this? I wonder if oil would be enough to condition my hair using this braid out method. Any success with it?

well, I wouldn't use lots of oil persay, but usually apply (at the most) two quarter sized amounts of wild growth oil to damp hair before I rollerset it. It makes my hair softer and pliable. hth

Well my hair doesn't like a whole lot of "oils" per say. I just started to use coconut oil again. I was wearing my fro out, and after washing(I am a no pooer) I applied the oil to my scalp, and ran a little down the shaft. I did 8-10 large flat twists, wrapped my hair and went to bed. When I took it out in the am, it was very soft. Plus since it's been humid, when it hit the air it was even softer. Plus I don't have to add anything else to it. I am really liking it and so is my hair for the moment. Again I didn't use a whole lot of oil. I don't want my skin to freak out or my hair to be greasy to the touch.

that's a good point that i didn't think of for some reason. when i was using lots of shea oil on my hair...near the forehead, i broke out. so maybe my skin won't like all the oil. :(

i have a fantasy that i can magically create beautiful waves...and that was the result of this girl's "oil as conditioner" experiment. i don't know what to try. but thanks for that reply...i'd forgotten all about the skin issue.

Oooh Girl, I don't really do alot of oils. Only light ones like almond, and kemi. My hair is not very thick so oils only weigh my hair down and make it look limp.

I used to wash, then put oil on my hair and rollerset it or bun it. In the end I had nice curls and waves, but only for putting my hair up as it was weighed down and oily feeling. My hair grew fast and without much breakage then too.

Might go back to this method in Winter.

Yes I use lots of oils. My hair drinks it up too fast! :nono: I apply it before and after my conditioner washes daily. :)

I use eo and other natural oils but heavily diluted in distilled water. This provides me with good moisture and shine, without the greasy feeling.
