Has anyone tried making their own relaxer??

Interesting to say the least. Kudos for finding edible food products to act as a relaxer but I'd like to see her new growth compared to previous relaxed hair. I love the concept but I'm not familiar w/ her hair....meaning she has no credibility w/ me. Unless you are a LHCF member or big hair YouTube guru, then I need more visual info....before and after, long term effect, etc.

true, i think its a cool idea and this is the first time ive heard of this but same for me, i need more info.

The coconut perm isn't new. There are multiple threads on it. I think most of the variations I remember revolve around coconut milk or cream and lime

ETA it looks like she has some heat damage probably from the flat ironing

I though she was going to mix it with lye, its hard to think about relaxing without it some type of chemical. To me this seems like a deep conditioner.

I wouldn't be the first to try it but I bet some of these lhcf chemist vets could mix up a good lye, lol. I'm just saying.

It's crossed my mind to try the coconut relaxer. I wouldn't mind. I'm sure the results are temporary right?

I wouldnt try this at all until i got details like how long it last, what exactly makes the hair straight and i want to see more results. For now ill stick to my no lye.

Hmm ive tried a few natural relaxers back in the day. Nothing worked. Its a nice protien treatment though. I prefer regular products because they are less messy and have a better shelf life.

maybe the acidity helps with closing the cuticle and resulting in smoother more managable hair but what does the okra have to do with anything?!

I would try it just to tell y'all if it worked or not but I am so over being a mixtress.

o_O

Umm, does she realize she can get those same results from just a good DC and blowdry?

And Ima need her to use a good heat protectant before she reaches for that blow dryer next time.

I have done this treatment before and that's all it is, a treatment. I'd say if you have hair in the 3 range and lower, you may experience some loosening but it is NOT permanent at all. I have type 4 hair n it's didnt loosen it but it made my hair feel so soft, hydrated n smooth. I still do it occasionally

Ugh, Puerto Rican grandmothers are always trying to dowse your head in coconut milk to tame unruly, frizzy hair and to relax the curl a bit.

I smell coconut milk and I start having flashbacks =/

I'm not illiterate. It's my phones auto correct
