Has anyone had a significant, random change in texture

Wow OP I'd say that was a dramatic change.
Sorry I don't have any advice or ideas for you, except that it may well be hormonal.

Id have to agree with Bublin here, that is a really dramatic change in texture. Maybe you should go see a Dr.
Not saying anything is wrong with you.

may be nutrition, stress or hormonal etc

ETA: oooops after reading to the next page I see that you will see your Dr. Hope you find out the "root" cause ... lol pun intended:lol:

Wow, that's pretty but super weird!!! All my theories are out the window.

I might suspect iron, I'm anaemic and have to take iron supplements but I'm too lazy so I haven't noticed a change. Maybe other people on iron can chime in?

Other than that I just don't know. Keep us updated if the doc explains it! You do have that wet kitten look going on. It's definitely an internal thing but with the shininess and silkiness I would not say its because your unhealthy.

Hi OP

I'm in my early twenties and experience the same. Some days my hair is kinkier than usual and other days it's much silkier. I put this all down to what I use & how dry my hair is

I, too, prefer my kinkier texture because it gives me that extra umph in terms of thickness. When my hair has more product in it I get that wet dog look. I hate it. I don't know how non-blacks survive with such limp, lifeless, ugly hair.

How often do you comb your hair OP? I've noticed with type 3 hair, the more we comb it (well in my experience) the wavier it gets. It's almost like we can change our texture with a comb instead of a relaxer

"Every seven to 10 years, my hair tends to change texture, going from straight to wavy to curly," says Kimberly Fasting-Berg, a marketing executive in New York City.

When I first went to an esthetician about my facial hair growth (PCOS) in my mid-late 20's, I was telling her depilatories worked through my teen years, but then stopped. She told me that about every seven years, our hair will experience a change in texture or a change in how the hair reacts to chemicals.

I haven't thought of that in years until FrazzledFraggle mentioned it. I also vote for the mega intake of iron as this has to be internal as it's the new growth and not all over.

Amarilles

I think you meant, It changes after chemotherapy. Alopecia doesn't change anything.

I've read about people who's hair shape changes after alopecia.

But it's very rare. OP, how long has this been happening for? I'm kinda intrigued...that rarely happens without us manipulating the hair in some way.

*CherryPie* Take a quickie look at the link under the pic, that boy's hair shape (on the bald patch) changed after he had alopecia areata. In the link they have a small paragraph of their conclusion on why they think it occurred...it's supposed to be very rare though.

Small update: I did ask my hematologist and she said it may be possible, but to be honest, she sort of brushed me off like it wasn't a serious concern in grand the scheme of things :look:

I started only using products on the ends of my hair instead of the entire length and that has helped a lot. The texture is still different, but it doesn't get so weighed down so it's blending better.

I feel your pain, OP. I was born with straight hair, and at age 5-6 it got wavy/curly (around 2c-3A), then it got curlier (3B/3C) in my mid teens to early 20s, now I'm 2B/2C/3A, sometimes if i'm lucky and use the right products I can get it to look 3B again. I have no idea why this happens. Sometimes people ask me if I relaxed or if I have a weave on cause my hair is so different, and I get an eyeroll when I say no LOL Whatevs...

My younger sister used to have type 2 hair, now about half of her hair is 3C and the other half 2A/2B... very, very strange.

Edit: Forgot to say I don't have babies.
